21 months later...

I finally got around installing my back QS-8 on the ceiling. If some of you remember, I had failed last year because my ceiling has metal beams for some reason. BUT, a few months ago, my landlord found me two lateral beams that are wood (he had the exact same layout downstairs before he renovated and he used pictures of the open ceiling). Today, I got up and decided to finally do it (more on the reason tomorrow when I finish/publish my testing with M22s as side/back surround and stuff!).

I included a picture of what it used to look to compare.

Soundwise, it provides a more ample volume (sounds like if in a much bigger room). For movies, it is a 100% improvement. For music, as long as the surround channels are only carrying ambiance information, it is either the same or a bit better. When the surround channels are carrying actual instruments (50% of contemporary music is using instruments all around the audience, and there is an increasinly larger number of SACDs with spatially correct church music), there is quite a loss. But more about how to live with that tomorrow when I talk about M22s in a surround system...

For now, I am enjoying the cleaner look. (don't worry about the pink wires, they will eventually get replaced by more discreet ones...).

Very nice! Cool the landlord let you mount them. Looking forward to hearing your impressions of the M22s as side/back surrounds…

Until I read this it looked to me like you had at least 6 surround speakers.

MUCH Better! Nice job Eric! I'm glad to hear it sounds as great as it looks (the speakers on those high towers scared the heck out of me).

Good lord! How far do you sit from yout TV? About 4 ft? I'm surprised you're not deaf by now.

And don't try to be smart by replying "What?" or "huh?" or any other variation.

And how many times did you almost knock over those rear surrounds?

Sitting 8 feet from TV and the rear surrounds were very stable (the tables are 60 pounds each with most of the weight in the base).
BTW, it is hard to get deaf by looking at something! \:\)
