Bayne's Upgraded Home Theater
Three and a half months of work and it's finally done. Right on schedule as Mass Effect 3 comes out on Tuesday and I've booked Wednesday off from work to play it all day.

Did the panels make a difference with the center channel?

Yes. The echo is gone and the center channel is full again. The VP160 really improves the sound stage, but the enhanced clarity over the VP150 I've had for 5 years is a little distracting in certain scenes when watching Blu-rays. I know I'll get used to it, it's just different and I'm trying to get a lot of listening in before I post my opinions of it.

I think all would agree that what you are now hearing is basically a full-range speaker being used in the center channel position which for the first time gives you pretty much the complete audible range of the human voice. The problem I have always had with smaller center channels, even the VP150(and I have experimented with many) is because of its size and smaller drivers, although the bulk of the sound is coming from the mid-range, too much emphasis has always been present in that frequency range which just doesn't give the human voice that "natural" sound. There are some voices that actually can produce sound below the bottom end capability of the speaker and of course, there will be other sounds that the VP150, because of the crossover setting(and its design limitations), is just not capable of handling at all. You can always hear what I am referring to by comparing the sound of the dialog between a small center channel and then switching to a two-channel(Phantom) stereo mode where the voices would be coming through your L/R speakers which would then give you a pretty good idea of the difference and, in my opinion, a more accurate picture of what the dialog and human voice is "suppose" to sound like. That is why, in an ideal world, one would want the same speaker for the center channel that is being used in the L/R position. Of course, in most cases, this is not physically possible, hence, horizontal designs. Speakers like, the 160, go along way towards dealing with this issue and the considerable improvement you are now hearing.

what a beautiful room!
don't the light colored side walls throw back some light towards the screen and play havoc with dark tones or blacks on movies?

The walls are pretty dark. The areas that the lights are pointed directly at look quite light, but when watching a movie, the walls do not distract at all. In fact, the little bare wall on the screen wall appears black in even the brightest scenes.

Surprised no one has commented on the unliscenced nuclear accelerator in the last shot. Who you gonna call?

Your room looks great! Glad you're finished and can enjoy it. Doesn't the "sweet seat" always require an odd # of seats? You are very generous with you ear time.
I can't comment on the nuclear accelerator, because of conflict of interest, so I'll just contain my comment to "unliscensed."
