olderbutWiserHT

Well its taken me almost 3 years to post these pictures. Actually this is HT Ver2. I never liked the setup we had for first HT, so I convinced my wife to let me do some house remodeling. It's a long story but the result for us has been a much better HT solution. It is still a work in progress. The shelving unit for the monitor is temporary until I can build something more appropriate. I also need to install crown molding and base boards. Then work on wall treatments. Hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoy the room

DDuval Thanks,we have always liked the old tin ceilings. These panels are acually an accustic tile made to give it that tin look. They of course come white. It was quite a project to give 280 of them two coats of the base paint and then dry brush the gold metal paint on to finish them. Accoustically they really work very well. I'm sure you are wondering about any visual reflections from the display on the gold paint. Truthfully I have to say that it never distracts me from anything we are watching and the comments we get about that ceiling are always complimentary. The pictures really don't do the tiles justice. Yes the room and our Axiom System sound fantastic.

Wow - looks great! How did you do the gold, out of interest? Just with a rag or dry brush? I'm not up on these things and I can't figure out how you would keep it from getting on the red. Looks sharp with the boston cherry!

Bob, it looks great! Thanks for sharing.

I really dig the faux tin ceiling! Years ago, I was in a restaurant that had an old tin ceiling and was mesmerized by it. Loved the feeling it imbued on the room.

Thank you all.

Amie, the gold was added using the dry brush method. We had to piant each tile individually. A box of tile contains 40 tiles so we painted one box at a time,7 boxes total. I would do the two coats of the red piant and after that dried my wife used a 4 inch foam roller to lightly apply the gold metal paint. I had already installed 3" furring strips on 12" centers perpendicular to the ceiling joists and then just stapled the tiles into place.

Sean let me know if you are ever coming to Yuma. You are welcome here anytime. That goes for Dean too. I would really like to listen to both yours and Deans setup too. LOL perhaps we should start the Arizona Chapter of Axiom Audio
