Aaron's Home Theater

Here it is. Finally done. Thanks to Axiom Audio and to owners on the Axiom forum for helping make this room possible.

The room is Not Atmos. Probably never will be.... just 9.1 utilizing the front presence speakers in ceiling due to the low 7'9" ceiling height. Sounds very good.

Your rx3050 is capable of immersive audio. If you dont take advantage I would really question your logic. Just enable it....

Can you explain what you mean a little more? I am using all of the sound settings Dolby DTS etc. usually I use the sound decode as it please the intended audio format from whatever source I am using. Am I doing something less then I could be with the nine speakers I have installed?

On my phone so can't read your Avr manual.

The rx3050 supports Atmos and DTS:x. I think that's why everyone is confused about why you put presence speakers up front. You can still decode the immersive formats, but the train has sailed for proper immersive layout.....

Again, on my phone so someone can confirm this for you. They're not working anyway. Lol

This is the speaker placement I used. Dolby 9.1.... I just put the presence speakers in ceiling in stead of just above my fronts due to the low ceiling height.

Yes.

Update the firmware on your yamaha receiver. You can do atmos and assign the ceiling speakers as front heights.

Dolby pro logic2z is a thing of the past. "Dolby surround" is the current upmixing codec.

You can do 3 dimensional audio. smile

I did update the firmware..... I'll have to play with it to see, I think the assignment of those speakers are currently are labeled as front presence speakers...so they are assigned and being used. is front presence different than front height?

Also several have mentioned QS8's are no bueno for Atmos...??

I found directions online to set input to Atmos / True HD. I think I have it currently set to Auto, assuming it would play whatever signal I am getting from the source. Is that for some reason not good? Won't it play Atmos if my speakers are set up correctly and the source is sending an Atmos signal?

Most people have reported (& it's recommended) that for Atmos you need direct firing surrounds at ear height. Whereas non-Atmos 'traditional' surround formats (5.1 or 7.1) the more diffuse QS8 surround speakers are great and at higher heights for best effect.

But since your receiver is capable, try turning Atmos on and see what you get. You might like it even if it doesn't follow the recommended configuration. Experimentation is part of the fun.

I'm personally going to be running my 7.1 for quite a while longer as switching to Atmos would be a big cost/renovation factor for my room. And i still love my QS8's. And I am hoping the M5's will cure my upgradeitis issues for awhile. And I hope they ship soon!

Speaking of updateitis.... my m22s are 10 years old. Is there any reason to think that the newer versions would have a significant sound quality improvement?
