Basement 7.1.4 setup

New basement setup. Still need to paint the M3 grills/frames and fix the TV wall mount (not quite level).

Looks cozy. Those M5s are very appropriate for that space. I am sure you'll get a lot of comments from visitors about the 180. Do those rear speakers make a difference?

To visitors, the 180 is probably the only indication that they're looking at a serious system.

I do notice the rears, especially with well mixed tracks. Blade Runner (the old one) in Atmos definitely made good use of them. I was very limited with placement options, and the lack of distance between the two rears probably makes them sound like a single speaker, but I'm still glad I put them in.

It could be that Atmos makes improved use of the rear channels. I keep saying I don't need rears but Atmos may make me change my tune one day.

You may remember I was debating getting rid of my rear surrounds, but since then I've watched a couple of discs with Atmos tracks, and their presence did make a difference. I'm back to sticking with them.

Thanks for that bman and Charles. If you would be so kind, please remind me what rears you have, Charles.

bman, how far from the front wall are those 180 ports? And what do you have the 180 crossed at for movies and music?

I'm very happy with my 160 but I'm considering trying the 180.

Maybe 2" off the wall, crossed at 60. I only got the 180 because the 160 was too tall for the space.

I'm using M5HPs as both side and rear surrounds.
