HDMI might even get replaced down the road (DisplayPort is starting to happen, for example) but it seems like HDMI is going to be the standard for at least a couple of years. Do you really have a choice today ? There's an argument for grabbing a player which will upscale to high res over component outputs to keep your options open, but I don't see any big alternatives to HDMI coming down the pipe soon enough to wait for unless you're willing to wait a couple of years.
