Cryptic, by Jack McDevitt. It's a colleciton of his short stories. Fantastic stuff. I love how McDevitt always leaves you wondering--there's always a deeper mystery to his stuff that is left unresolved.

When I first found his books (completely by accident--forgot to decline my selections for the SF book club), I discovered that series combined two of my favorite things: sci-fi and archaeology! Ooooh...
