Plywood feels sturdy enough. I don't think it's rotten, but it is old. Off with the cabinets also means off with some wall tile, and the sink and the stove and the oven. You get the picture. This is supposed to be a floor project, not a complete kitchen re-do. The shorter I can keep this project the quicker I can get the downstairs room redone and the quicker I can have a dedicated HT room.

And the reason I'm doing the kitchen floor first is because, other than the floor being ancient, is I want the floor, then a door to keep the cat out of my construction area during non-cat critical moments. She's already getting tired of "Kitty Jail" when I'm working on the kitchen floor, and waiting for it to dry.
