That can be quite loud, actually. My wife wanted to crawl under the seats from embarrassment, but I brought my sound meter to a theater in Louisiana and peak levels were 110+ dB and the quietest moments (where there was still sound) was in the mid-80's, iirc. If it was a work place, OSHA would have issued a citation. (Yes, I know it's a workplace for the employees there, but they don't sit through the movie typically)
