Then you need to get to the US more often. I can point you to at least a dozen off the top of my head that are nothing like that. Sav Blanc is the big thing in Napa right now. Some are going for as much as $150 a bottle.

Oh i don't doubt there are different styles of sauvignon blanc from California that are unlike what i've described. However of all those i tried from what i can buy locally, i haven't found much variation. It is not unlike the sauv blancs of New Zealand either. Virtually all of them i've had are heavy in a certain character which makes it easy to know exactly what you are drinking and where it is from. Unless i want that character specifically, i don't open a NZ sav blanc. A blanket statement, but it is what i've experienced.
