I just came back from this show. It wasn't bad. Special effects are outstanding but Tom Cruise got on my nerves a little in this flick. He is more or less a sissy for most of the movie and to me at least, it just didn't work very well.

At the end of the day, it was worth the price of admission. The highlight for me was seeing the preview for the upcoming Transporter 2! I loved part 1.

I watched it too, and I think it was a good movie but not excellent. Special effects and war were in a second row behind the character of Tom Cruise, which instead of fighting and doing something, kept running and hiding... not a very good ending either... Still it was a worth watching movie!

Exerpted from an IRC channel. I haven't seen the movie, but I found it funny.

[01:17:06] <@jolar> For a movie budgeted at $128 million, I'm sadly not impressed.
[01:17:27] <jayman> You can't spoil War of the Worlds since it is a remake everyone knows the plot line.
[01:18:13] <@jolar> http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/de/Steven_Spielberg.jpg - this man owes me $8.50 and a blowjob.
[01:18:47] <Thasp> why a blowjob?
[01:19:00] <@jolar> Because he can't give me my time back.

I'm going to make the trip to see this next weekend. I've heard mixed reviews, but, ultimately, I like Tom Cruise, SS, and Sci-Fi; so, I'm sure I'll like it even if just for the pretty pics.

A Transporter 2? COOL!

All in all, a "Wait for DVD movie"?? Or one the kids might enjoy "at the show"?? Sounds like a real flip of the coin event!

With full blown Home Theater, it's getting more and more "Wait For DVD" all the time!!

I'm not going to this movie. If I want to see TWOTW, I'll buy the original, instead. I know I'm in a minority here, but I was never much of a Spielberg fan. I couldn't stand ET, Jaws was just ok. Regarding Cruise, without going into the Today Show interview/argument I have to say that I don't believe the man has any integrity. My reasons for saying this is 2 of his early movies. Top Gun and Born of the Fourth of July. The first being a pro-war movie and second being an anti-war anthem. My thought at the time was 'make up your mind, Tom.' That just bothered me and it has forever tainted whatever opinion I have of his acting ability.

Not sure I agree there. Don't think actors are expected to express their views and biases through movie selection.

Arnie's movie casting was more a function of his speech than his personal biases -- with action films you can get away with more grunts and less flowery dialog -- and as a governor he seems to have ended up pretty much as far to the left as the pretty boys.

EDIT -- I watched Collateral last night, thought Cruise was pretty good in that.

Hmmm not a Spielberg fan? Close Encounters? Indiana Jones? Schindler's List? Saving Private Ryan? Band of Brothers? Jurassic Park? AI? Empire of the Sun? Back to the Future? Surely you liked most of those or maybe not.True his last several movies have been not up to par.

I think it was worth seeing on the big screen. If you know a theater with good sound system it would be a bonus.

I saw it here in Veracruz, Mexico. The sound was certainly loud enough, too loud in my opinion. But the bass was not there like it should have been. I will just have to wait until it comes out on DVD to hear some real bass at home!

Ticket prices here are about $4 US, not too bad eh? Stadium style seating in a new theater with a huge screen. There is a bar in the lobby of the theater, and a sushi bar too, although I don't think I am brave enough to eat sushi in a movie theater in Mexico. They have waiters before the movie starts and an intermission if it is an especially long movie.

Not a Spielberg fan? That's OK. "I pah-don you."
