Gonna give the Dayton Quattro 15" a shot. Should be here tomorrow. I'm house-sitting for a friend and the M1tiSE's arrived. I unplugged his JBL's and hooked up my speakers to his receiver. WOW! Exactly what I was looking for. More upper bass, stronger vocals, and big imaging/soundstage. Old early 90's JVC Receiver. Hopefully they will sound even better on my Kenwood. But it got me thinking maybe the M2 would be easier to blend and have less trouble keeping up with VFT-2 or my Homemade 15" ???????

Also for $20.00 more, would the 3's be a better match for a powerful sub? Crossover is fixed at receiver at 80hz or with my Yamaha at 90hz. I quietly listen to Sade and Natalie Merchant to fall asleep, Crank Pink Floyd once a week, and watch a few movies in DD and DTS now and again. Using Take-5 with Homemade Velodyne-Box/Infinity Kappa Perfect driver. Want more SPL for bedroom without giving up quality and move Take-5 to office.

No, the M3's have a somewhat muted midrange and lack of detail compared to the M2's. If you want to "crank" Pink Floyd and retain the same level of midrange detail and clarity as the M2's, move up to the M22ti's. Great dynamic capability (two woofer/midrange drivers) and lovely soundstage.

Sounds like Axiom is thinking about upgrading the M3's for improved midrange?!? That would be great!

Had Polk Monitor 10B (classic huge box) since I was married 17 years ago. Finally getting a home theater system and went with B&W 602 speakers and a Svs sub. Want to get QS4 or QS8 for the 3 rears.

Well I purchased a set of M2's this morning. The M1ti's will go to back surround. In 2 weeks I'm gonna get the VP100 center. Then, in another 2 weeks I'll sell the M1ti's on eBay. But where do I go from there?
(A) Keep price down and buy another set of M2's for the surround channel.
(B) Upgrade the fronts to M22's and move the M2's to the rear. (What would I gain? A little more sensitivity and dynamics?)
(C) Buy a set of QS8's. I have small shelves on the back wall displaying some old vhs box sets. My surrounds sit on these shelves. The QS8's would have to be mounted on the side wall about 6 inches forward of the listener 7 feet up. Is it worth it to pay that $500 (+$215 over M2's) for these surrounds and run new wires etc? Want to get away from the hybrid tweeter so I don't know about the 4's. Thanks in advance.

I agree with Allan 100%. The M22 has greater detail than the M3.

There is one thing to note that everyone has different tastes. I had the M22 for 5 months. The detail was great but it did not work for me. For my room I could only listen to them for about 1.5 hours or 2 at mid-loud levels (approx 70+db) and then I get listener fatigue and I get a headache. I traded them for M3. Now I can go more than that. I havent hit that fatique levels yet but I have yet passed 2.5 hours of mid-loud levels but so far so good. I like the M3 more than I did the M22. The M22 seemed a little forward and harsh at times. The M3 sounds exceptionally well specially if you crossover anywhere in the 80-100-120Hz to a good sub. For my ears it is much more suitable. For others, the M22 maybe better.
Another note is that it was much harder to dial in a sweet spot for the M22. The M3 was much easier. The M22 needs to be far away from anything (walls, TVs, bookshelves) to get its max ability. Once dialed in, its detail and soundstage shine like the 4th of July (yes I know I'm Canadian and do not know what that really means. If I said Victoria Day would that really help?)

i think the m22 is 1 db more sensitive than the m2i. thats the difference my spl meter measures anyway.

The M2's arrived and ick...... So far NO good. There's more body in the vocals for the M2's. But I dont get the same imaging. Close my eyes and point to where the voice is coming from. M1ti's are center. The M2's left side. About equal in bass. But the highs are really "shrilly". I don't know the word. Nails on chaulkboard. Hooked them up at and let them play soft on changer in other room and went to sleep. Woke up, turned up the volume while getting ready for work and was not pleased. Right now I prefer the sound of the M1ti's. The speakers are on stands 8 feet apart, 6 inches from back wall. No corners. Just a wall dividing kitchen and living room. Is there a break-in from where it sounds about "about average" overall and changes to "great" over time.

my m2is sounded great when i first played them and sound great now. i noticed no change in their sound over time. i guess this is just a good example of subjective reaction to speakers. i would give them some more time and experiment with placement at least.

wanted to add that i have come across posts on other forums from people who feel the axioms need a lengthy breakin. a couple posters felt that the sound was completely transformed after breakin. from my experience that just isnt the case, but whether it be psychoacoustic or not there is definately good reason to give the speaker time before you make your final decision. use the trial period to its fullest.
