Would 6" forward of listening area, on side be O.K.? I have shelf high up on the wall displaying movie box sets and my Take 5 surrounds sat on that. They say these can't go there.

I have the QS8's. They are built the same as the 4's. The down firing woofer would be covered by the shelf it was sitting on. I personally didn't prefer the sound of my QS8's when I had them sitting on something. How high up is the shelf?

Can you take down the shelf and cut a woofer hole in it?

I also have my QS8s sitting on shelves. I went to Canadian Tire and picked up some cheap, stick on rubber feet, about 3/4 inches high which lifts the surrounds off the shelf a bit allowing the bottom woofer to be heard.
Now i have one of the surrounds mounted on a far wall and so far, i have not noticed much of a difference in the surround effect. More of an effect came from actually moving the physical position of the QS8s from beside the couch to the opposite walls further away.
