Hi
I'm new to the forum. Great resource!!
I'm currently starting to design a listening room in my basement. I've read the data on the golden ratio stuff and have the room to do as I wish with ony one problem. (so far anyway). The support poles for the I-beam will be in the way. Certainly they are only 4" in diameter but just what effect they will have sonic wise. The best configuration I have come up with will have one of the poles tight along one of the walls a couple of feet in front of one of the speakers. Somtimes I think it won't matter at all since it is so small in diameter. Another considera tion is to install a lower ceiling about 7' 3'' and it won't be a problem at all.
any suggestions?

Pretty much everyone reads all the forums (fora ? forae ?) anyways so why don't we let this post die and keep all the answers over in the Technical Questions ? Going there now...

When I finished the basement I worked the poles into the left and right front side of the audio cabinet and also boxed in the pole near the right surround speaker. check out the first picture in this link.

You'll see how the audio cabinet sticks out farther than the rest of the wall. It's because there are poles in the front left/right corners. Also you'll see how the wall near the surround sticks out. that's for the same reason. just work the poles into your design. Worked for me.

Legairre, what are the dimensions of your theatre? By counting tiles, it looks as if it's 12 x 22 feet. Is this correct? Anything you would change?

Thanks,
Shawn

Man your pretty close. It's 13x24. The screen is suspended in air about 2 feet in front of the front wall. I would have liked to have had the audio cabinet flush with the wall, but that would have narroed the room to 11' 6 " instead of 13'. Other than working around the poles everything worked out fine. Actually working around the poles even worked out pretty good.

I think you better let those Poles out.
Really, that kind of stuff will not impair the enjoyment of your theater (assuming they're some distance away from the speaker fronts).

Yeah, every time I see the post title, I think you've imprisoned Peter and Adam...

I'm surprised it took one of us this long to make the joke...
