I'm starting up my system VERY slowly and have the chance to pick up a slightly used VP100 center channel for less than the Factory Outlet price.

My room dimensions are 14 x 20 x 8' ceilings and I'm somewhat concerned that the VP100 may be too small.

The "grand scheme" is to add M60's for fronts, etc. I've also read here that the VP150 is a better match to M60's than the VP100. The system is going to be powered by a Marantz SR7200 A/V receiver.

This system will be used almost exclusively for movies and DirecTV (no music). Any advice?

The VP150 and VP100 should match M60s equally in terms of sound. The main differences between 150 and 100 AFAIK are :

- 150 can play a bit louder, you need this if you're sitting far away from the speakers (the "big room" thing)

- 150 has slightly wider dispersion; if you are going to have people sitting way off axis the 150 will handle that better

- 150 is really wide

What kind of seating arrangement are you thinking about ?

BTW, Axiom has knowledgeable people on the phone all weekend, you might want to give them a buzz even after we all respond here.

If you are using a projector, another option would be an M22 vertically below the screen. Some people even use M60s and M80s for centers, don't forget...

Thanks bridgman,

I have a Mitsubishi 55" projection t.v. and the main sofa is approximately 15' from it and centered with the t.v. For the most part, there's only two of us watching at any given time, so I think that the whole off-axis thing is not a huge problem for me.

After I first posted this question, I did some searching of the archives. I found that, generally, the feeling is that the 150 is louder, a little clearer, and has a wider soundstage.

I didn't seem to find any other compelling evidence that makes me doubt that the 100 will work for me. Like I said, I was most concerned with the whole compatibility of the 100 with the M60's, etc.

I run the VP100 with my 60s and like it fine.

There are a lot of 100 owners around here that are very happy with its performance with any of the mains Axiom sells. For that room size and combining with the 60's, you'll be happy either way.

Thanks to you all. I picked up the VP100 from eBay for $155.00, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

Now on to the M60's!
