Hey gang! I haven't been nearly as active in the last few months as I used to be, and a big reason for this is because I've been shopping for my first home. Thankfully, I found something that's been well-kept and suits my budget. I close September 6th and I'm really looking forward to moving in.

The one head-scratcher, though, is where the TV (27"), VP150 and M22s are going to go. My hope is that I could talk you guys into taking a look and making a few recommendations. I love the house (and I'm stuck with it now!), but the living room isn't exactly HT friendly.

Here's the layout in my current apartment so you can get a sense of how big the TV cabinet is:

A few points to consider:

• I have no idea how much distance is represented by any of the three bars. I haven't moved in yet, or even done the inspection. Leave me alone.
• If I end up placing the TV/M22s in the yellow area, I'm not sure how much
  room will be necessary to allow the front door to swing open.
• The width of the room is either 14 or 14.5ft (can't remember).

You didn't choose your home based upon it's acoustical properties? And you show your face here?

Without any real measurements, I'm kind of thinking you have to put everything along the long wall. Or refinish a basement!

Seems simple. Ignore all the coloured bars, put the system against the left wall. You will want traffic from the front door to be able to bypass the furniture anyways...

Thanks, Mark! Believe me, with the first three homes I made offers on, layout and acoustics were definitely a consideration. All of the deals fell through for one reason or another, and I started to reach the point where I'd exhausted all of the available listings that were worth a darn.

This one was on the market 13 days when I looked at the place. I knew immediately that speaker placement was going to be an issue, but it's in a nice, quiet neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac off of a dead end street. The neighbors are older folks, and the house is in great shape. New hardwood floors, and it doesn't look like a bunch of damned chimpanzees lived there. Plus, the current owners are a couple who are in the middle of a divorce so they were motivated to sell. All of these elements made the HT layout less of an issue than it would have otherwise been. Of course, now it's turning into a pain...

All too often we get stuck thinking that things have to go paralell to walls or flat up against the wall. Looking at the picture of the apartment it looks like you made very good use of limited space by putting things at angles. You might think in this way at the new place. Take some graph paper and scale the room out. Make scale graph paper cutouts of you furnishings and move them around on paper. You'd be surprised of some of things you are willing to try when you are not actually moving furniture. It really help visualizing the possibilities. I'll bet you'll be able to come up with something nice in that room. Best of luck...I hope this goes through for you. Nice wood floors by the way.

maybe you can pick up the new__STEALTH SERIES__hint hint-in walls when they come out and use your current 22s as rears...man that stealth series is gonna be somthing......such brains in that marketing dept of axiom

Man, of course!!! What was I thinking??? I'm loaded as it is, and since closing costs and moving expenses and establishing services and utilities cost practically nothing these days, I'd be a fool not to spring for a new set of speakers!
