I am stuck between purchasing M60, Paradigm Monitor 7 or Wharfedale Diamond 9.6. my mind changes every day and I have read enough reviews to thoroughly confuse me. Has anyone here compared these 3 and can help me finally make this decision. I will use mostly for music but also movies. I like LOUD and crystal clear and listen mostly to older rock music and concert dvd

I had the chance to audition some Paradigms before purchasing my M60s. Paradigm Studios (60, and 100) all V.3 were very comparable to Axioms to my ears. However, I did not like Monitor series. Have you had the chance to listen to those speakers for yourself?

I have only been able to listen to the Paradigm. The dealer here who has them also carries B & W and I seemed to prefer the Paradigm over the B & W 603?, I think it was anyway. So not being able to hear either the Axiom or Wharfedale they are on my top 3 list based solely on what I have read. "Fatigue" is a concern to me since I believe that is what happens to me now with my current speakers. "Laid back" sounds like a term I would not be interested in but "bright" also could be a problem. I currently have an older Onkyo receiver that is 75 watts per channel but will upgrade when I buy speakers, am considering either denon 2105 or Yamaha V657

I agree that the Studios are a better match tha Monitors. I auditioned both before my Axioms.
Try to audtion all of them. You can order the Axioms for an in home trial.
I you like loud, you might want to step up to the Axiom 80s.

Hello mreed,

Note that some generous Axiom owners are willing to open their homes to let you audition Axiom speakers. Go to the Hearing Things forum and look for someone near you who has Axiom models you'd like to hear. Send a private message to the board member who is near you to set up an audition.
Typically, Axiom models are comparable to the more expensive lines from B&W and Paradigm. The M60ti is close to the B&W 703 or the Paradigm Reference Studio 80 or 100. Actually, the M60ti and M80ti are more linear than the Paradigms, with a bit more midrange clarity and free of the Paradigm upper bass hump. I've not heard Wharfedales in years.

Regards,

I haven't heard the Wharfdales' but I used to own a pair of Monitor 7's, now I have Axiom M80's. The m7's are not even in the same class, the M60's will blow them away without a doubt.

I can't comment on the Wharfedales or Paradigm, because I have never heard either. But if loud crystal clear music is what you want the M80ti's will not disappoint. Although my amplifier is "only150 Watts" they will play as loud and clear as I and my neighbors can stand. There is a link on the Axiom homepage to read the most recent M80ti review, and I personally agree exactly with what they say about the M80's. I will make it easy for you, just buy the Epic 80 * 600 Package and the biggest baddest amplifier you can afford and forget about it. Sell something if you dont have the money, or get a new credit card with no interest for a year. And if for some reason you didnt like it just send it back and say no thanks. Anyway, if you were in the Houston area I would let you listen to mine. Maybe you can find someone on the Auditon Axiom Speakers thread in your area. Good Luck!

Well I guess that scratches Paradigm off my list, now I'm down to 2. Now you guys have me thinking about M80 again, only thing is that will force me to upgrade my receiver right away, I don't think mine will handle the 4 ohm load, and I had planned to wait a couple months. I have considered buying M60 now and M80 later. So you dont think I will be happy with M60? Not loud enough?

M60s is loud enough, M80 is louder!! Choosing between the two is a dilema, since they also sound very similar (that's what everybody says, including the Axiom technicians I have spoken over the phone). Since you have a receiver, and since you are a first time Axiom buyer, I would suggest you get M60s first. Then you can exchange them no later than 30 days for M80s for no extra cost if you are not fully satisfied(Axiom will pay the shipping cost back to them for M60s as well, since this is considered an upgrade).

As Alan suggested, you may have to consider listening to them at somebody's home. That's what I did before I got my M60s four months ago. You'll create a very good idea how they sound, and look.

I have never heard the M60ti's but by all accounts they are very similar to the M80ti's, sonically. Is that a word? Anyway how far away from the speakers do you plan on sitting? How big is the room you will be using? I sit approximately 15 ' from my speakers and they are plenty loud. If you sit only 10' away there is a big difference in the volume level so a smaller speaker might be all you need. I personally always prefer overkill, for those times when you just need to CRANK IT. Try the Wizard for the recomended system or call them and talk to them directly. I think it is sometimes cheaper to go with something that is a little more expensive now than to start replacing everything in a few months, and the fact that it is a big pain in the arse to sell stuff and move stuff around. I am sure your receiver will be fine as long as you don't do anything crazy like full volume for hours on end, if the sound starts to sound edgy and distorted back off and you should be fine. And when you can afford a new amp/receiver, whatever you want, you can move the Onkyo into the bedroom or wherever you want to put a second system.
