My wife told me that when I first glanced our first born she watched the expression on my face. She described it like this, "I have never seen anyone so disappointed in my life." Who wouldn't be disappointed. This was not a pretty sight. I wasn't sure if it was a lizard or ET. I just knew it didn't appear human. It had a lump on the side of its head and was wrinkled and yellow looking. And it screamed like something unseen from the tropic regions. But, after 6 months he didn't resemble that thing I had seen. Then he was cute. The change was miraculous. Now he's a handsome 22 year old man.

Wonderfull sentiments; I'm sure your Son would be pleased to hear you say that. 
I'm also certain that event twenty two years ago seems like it were just a week ago. They grow up so fast don't they?

How true that is... I just got back from the farm (working "holiday" - I needed to get away, they needed someone to tear apart the "new" Versatile 4WD tractor they bought and give it the once over)... spent an afternoon putting together another corral in the new cold barn... while I'm welding and grinding away, the calves in the the next pen would headbutt me or get underfoot... kept turning around and wondering why, unlike if they were full grown, I didn't want to adjust their vision with a manure fork... realized it's the "cute" factor, big bulbous eyes, encephalitic heads... then one stuck it's tongue in my pocket and licked my dill pickle Spitz.
It was then I realized I may be hard wired to feel compassion for young animals, but my wiring has an on/off switch... and I clocked it in the head with my fist.

I'm afraid I'll have to take down the painting of big eyed duckies and chickies and piggies on black velvet from above the mantle now, I can no longer look at them in the same light.
I'm devastated.
