Anyone have this problem with their Receiver, for no known reason, while watching television (or anything for that matter) the receiver just.........shuts off without warning. What can be the cause of this?(NEWBIE!!!)

make sure theres no short circuit of the speaker wires. sometimes a strand of the wire can contact the other terminal and that might cause shutdown. also if you're driving the speakers at high levels (low impedance speakers especially) it might go into protection mode. that doesnt sound like the case in your situation unless you happened to have it turned up really loud.

I will check my speaker connections and, i have the M60's. I didnt think turning them up loud would cause this. But in my case they were not loud when it shut down, I just got the receiver and i was testing out all the selections (TV, VCR, DVD, etc..) when it shut down.

Check to see if your receiver has some sort of "auto TV shut off" feature.
Some new A/V receivers have a "feature" whereby it can detect a surge from your TV that is caused from turning the TV off, and then the receiver shuts off as well, to provide you the convenience of not pressing the receiver's power button yourself. (a clearly cumbersome task)

Apparently this feature tends to run amuk and shut itself off at random times when it thinks any sort of bright flash on your TV means you shut the TV off.

Look around in your menu to see if your Denon has this feature, and just turn it off.

Or maybe it is a problem with the cabling short curuiting itself out, what do you guys think of bananna plugs cause I just cant seem to get a solid connection in the tight space provided.

Does your receiver produce a lot of heat? I had an Onkyo TX-SV919THX receiver that needed a great deal of open space around it to keep cool. If I put it in my entertainment center it would get too warm and shut itself off. Annoying, but a great safety feature that probably saved it's life. I had to move the unit out of the entertainment center, that kept it cooler, and the problem ceased.
