Hoping someone who understands room boundaries/dimensions can chime in here about my current EP500 Settings.

I have owned the EPIC60-EP500 combo for 6 months now and love it!! Recently, I discovered on the EP500 that if I change the setting to "half", I get better bass response in the mid bass regions.

I know logically, that the best setting is FLAT and I am artificially increasing the output above 33 Hz, but I think this may be compensating for a Null in this range based on my room dimensions that are 20x20x10. I always got the very low bass, but this helped w/the mid bass.

My two questions are: Is this the right thing to do based on my "half cube" shaped room? Second question is now that the EP500 amp has boosted those mid-bass frequencies by 3 db, am I forcing it to take away from it's output below 30 hz? Thanks!!

Wow... 20x20x10... I don't know how to interpret those numbers. You have a peak AND a big dip at 28 (I don't know which one wins but I bet it's the dip), a hole at 42, a peak at 56, a peak at 85...

So... take the following with a big hunk of salt, but :

- yes I think this is the right thing to do, assuming the null wins over the peak, which I think it will...

- if you have a 20 and 30 hz note simultaneously you will probably max out with a couple of db less at 20 hz than on FLAT, but if you just have a 20 hz note you won't be losing anything

- because the 30 hz range is bumped up a bit you may end up with the subwoofer level turned down a bit to make it sound right, so in that sense you would also get a bit less at 20 hz all other things being equal

Bottom line is that if this compensates for the room response it is probably the right thing to do even if you do end up with a bit less at 20 hz.
