I am about to order a pair of the Millennia M60ti Towers and a EP350 Powered Subwoofer. For now I have a SONY STR-GX6ESII receiver that was just given to me. I'm not familiar with SONY ES stuff and was wondering how this receiver will do powering the Axioms I plan to buy? How would I hook up the sub? Eventually I want to upgrade to a nice AV receiver but that will be at a later date when I add the remaining speakers for HT.

The M60's are very efficient and easy to drive, you won't have a problem with that receiver, which I believe is rated at 100 watts/ch. I'm not sure if it has a sub out for coazial cable, but there are other ways to hook up subs, the 350 has regular speaker wire hook ups as well.

Do you have the power ratings for the receiver... I wasnt able to find the official receiver specs. online. Also, just out of curiosity, is that a stereo receiver?

I googled the receiver model that you gave us and I only found one mention of it. In another forum someone mentioned that it had 100w per channel @ 8ohm load. This would be enough to drive the M60ti's to fairly high decibels.

As for the sub, you will need to plug a coaxial cable into the line-level, it should be labeled "subwoofer output", on the receiver and plug the other end of the coaxial cable into the line in on the subwoofer. Or, if that particular receiver does not have a sub out you can use the high level input on the subwoofer. The quote below comes directly from the EP350 manual. So, you will have it right in front of you either way you hook it up.

"HIGH LEVEL INPUT: Use these “speaker-level” or high-level 5-way binding post connectors only if your receiver or preamp lacks a dedicated line-level subwoofer output jack. Connect speaker cables from your amplifier’s left-channel and right-channel speaker output binding posts to the high-level inputs using banana plugs (single or dual), spade connectors, pins, or bare cable if you wish (unscrew the top of each binding post and insert the cable into the hole in the post; tighten the knurled knob against the cable). Run a second pair of speaker cables from these jacks to your main left and right front speakers. Do not use these connectors if you are already using an RCA or XLR line-level connection from the receiver or preamp to the subwoofer. NOTE: BE SURE TO CONNECT BLACK TO BLACK AND RED TO RED."

Edit - I just realized that this is posed in the "Stereo" section.... duh.

Thank you for the replies, it is much appreciated.

I found the receiver specs for the SONY STR-GX6ESII...

8-ohm load, both channels driven, from 20-20,000 Hz, rated 100 watts per channel minimum RMS power...Dynamic Power Output 140 watts + 140 watts (8 ohms, at 1 kHz IHF), 190 watts + 190 watts (4 ohms, at 1 kHz IHF).

Unfortunately the receiver does not have a Pre Out or sub out. Will I take any kind of a performance hit using the high level input on the sub?

I don't think so, but maybe someone else will chime in on that question. The M60's have very good bass response as is.....

I've decided to get rid of the old SONY and get a Denon, probably the AVR-2106.

DM, welcome. Yes, the 2106 would be a fine buy. I'd also suggest if you get an HT receiver that, although a sub would be very desirable, the bass from the M60s alone is good enough that your second priority should instead be QS4 surrounds. This would allow you to enjoy surround sound from DVDs and from CDs using DPLII.

Speaking of receivers, I ran across this resource for helping one choose a receiver.

Reciever Buying Guide.

The 2106(former 2105) is a fine receiver. I have the 2805 and these units are very similar. I think the only difference is a few watts, and the 2106 doesn't have the Room EQ part, which is not big deal, I don't use it on my 2805 anyway. The autosetup is nice as it helps setting up the speaker levels, delays, etc.

congrats.

Again, thanks for the input...great forum. I'm going forward with the 2106. I'm not in a big hurry for the HT setup so I'm going to start with the Millennia M60ti towers and the EP350 sub. I'm ready to discover my CD collection all over again!
