That's awesome, congratulations Peter! I've always liked Grace as a girls name, I bet you and Mom are happy!

How soon will you all upgrade to version 4.0 and 5.0?

[Edited for spelling.....good thing Baby Grace won't have ol' BrotherBob for an English teacher!]

Congratulations to you and your wife! Your daughter is beautiful. My daughters were both over 9 lbs as well. The most recently born was named Ella Grace (I like the name Grace as well).

There is a "fix" to this kind of upgradeitis, but the details are a little harrowing....

Congrats, though. She's adorable. My best wishes to your family as it continues to grow.

Congratulations, Peter. I rejoice at this blessing bestowed to your family and to our world.

That is perhaps the best newborn picture I've ever seen.

I was kind of wondering about that disturbance in the force...

Congrats! I must say it has been very cool/nice to actually watch your family grow online. I joined this board in April of 2003. It amazing to see little Stewie...err, I mean Stevie grow so fast! Keep up the good work!

Thanks everyone! We're all doing well. Gracie slept for almost 5 hours straight in her crib last night, so we got even more caught up on lost sleep. Let's hope this trend continues.

Time for burp duty now. She feeds, I burp.

I don't say how I appreciate the sincere comradery we enjoy on this board often enough. I've only met a handful of you in person, but your wishes and congratulations mean a lot to me, just the same.

Thanks to Axiom, especially, for providing the seed -- and for not weeding very often.

Congratulations, Peter!

From my experience, if they start sleeping long stretches at the beginning, it usually lasts...which is a GREAT thing!

Absolutely adorable child...know you are proud but your wife deserves something special for doing the majority of the work...

Watch over her carefully and teach her right...they grow up WAYYYY TOO FAST!

Again, Congratulations!

Good luck, and congrats again!

I'd like to add my congratulations as well! Are you mailing out cigars to everyone who responds?

We had our daughter on October 2, 2005 at 9:44 am. She is our first and her name is Jenna.

http://www.boyorgirl.ca/

Baby ID: 14002759
Password: Jenna

She was 9 lbs 7.3 ounces and 21 inches long. The photo was taken at the hospital about two days after she was born.

At least, being the second, you have some experience that you can draw from with the first. However, every baby is different so sometimes that is no consolation.

Just out of curiosity, when your wife had the first baby, did she ever say that she did not want to go through that experience ever again or does she come from a big family (usually people from big families have more children)?

Why do they refer to a baby's size as "long". Ewwww...sounds like you're describing a worm or something. Tall. People are tall.

Sorry...pet peeve of mine.

I guess since they figure babies can't stand-up? They just kinda lay there.

It is weird, though. Like describing a newborn as a trout.

Does that mean if they don't measure within the required slot limit they get thrown back?

So, would you describe a horizontal EP600 as being 45.5" tall or 45.5" long? I'd guess you'd say long, right. Same thing goes with babies. They don't stand up on their own, so you're more likely to find them in their horizontal configuration.

So if I were to get into an accident and no longer be able to stand or walk I'd from then on be 5'7" long?

I understand why people say it, I just think it's very, very wrong.

I get what you're saying, but I still think it's a very accurate label. People feel obliged to call newborns cute and beautiful -- and they are in their own, slimy squishy way -- but let me tell you, "long" just works, and they don't mind one bit.

Oh, and if you were to suddenly become a vegatable, you'd still be referred to as short.

Peter, just as a horizontal EP600 as viewed from the usual perspective could appropriately be described as being 45.5" "wide", logic would seem to demand that the same standard be applied to babies. If the person measuring was alongside the baby the measurement should be given as e.g. 21" "wide". If instead that person saw fit to position himself or herself at the head or feet of the baby the description must be 21" "deep". The difference in terminology should cause no confusion, since clearly it would relate to the position of the measurer, not an abnormality in the child. This is an issue which has been overlooked for far too long and it's hoped that this thread will encourage additional serious discussion of the matter.

Hey, this is none of my business, as I don't even have kids not to mention having never given birth to one, but....
I'm guessing that most women would want to give birth to something that's long as opposed to tall!
