Today anyway. I have decided to go with the Epic 60. Now here is my problem. I have a Pioneer VSX-815. I would like to get a new one maybe ONKYO TX-702,HK AVR235,AVR335 or something in that price range. Would it be better to keep my 815 and get the EP500 or get a receiver and drop down to the EP350. My wife is asking questions so I need answers. No, really what do you suggest. Any other receiver recommendations.

Thanks,Robert

Keep the receiver and get the EP 500.That's what I recommend .

I say to definitely hang on to the EP500. You will notice more of a difference with the subwoofer than you will with a new receiver.

I think several board members may come to your house and break your legs if you opt for a new receiver over the EP500. Not because it's more money in Axiom's pocket, but as was stated above, there'll be a much bigger gain in performace with the sub upgrade over the receiver upgrade.

I would be first in line if you went with a new receiver. Where do you live? (just in case)

Robert, I'm also in agreement: the EP500 should significantly increase your enjoyment of your system; your 815 is a fine receiver which should be entirely adequate for your needs. Replacing it would make little or no real difference.

One more vote for the same thing. Dollar for dollar, improving speakers is the best bang for the buck, much more so than electronics.

Change recievers and the sound will pretty much be the same… Very small difference.. you go with the ep500 vs. the 350, night and day, I went from an ep350->ep600 and you cant even compare the 2.. as a whole system, well it was like a whole different home theater with the 600, vs the 350.. with the 350 it would bottom out some times, depending on the movie. Finding nemo, you could hear the thump, and master and commander you could “hear” the cannon fire.. but with the 600, finding nemo your whole body would shake with the 600, and master and commander, you could feal the cannon shots deep inside your body…

So, 350-600 one is a home theater, the other is better than movie theater, theater.. same thing with the ep500, very small difference between the 500 and 600.. so for a “more” movie theater feel, less home theater feel, go with the 500…
