Anyone got any news on any upcoming 1080p plasmas? I'm surprised they've let LCD and DLP take that ball and run with it.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like my room works best with a wall mountable tv. I could possibly fit a 50-52" table top rear projection on top of my equipment rack, but it completely depends on how the particular model is designed. It would have to have a very small outer bevel to the screen, and absolutely no side mounted speakers. ...I just went downstairs and measured. I have exactly 55" of width between my two M60's. So realistically, I can only fit a tv with a width of 53" on top of my equipment stand. I don't want to buy any set that's not at least 50" in screen size.

Hmmmm...

Racking my brain as to how to get a nice big set in my livingroom. Wall mountable LCD's are only up to 46". Plasmas aren't 1920x1080.

Here's what my new tv MUST have:

Display and accept 1920x1080 signal
50"+
fit on my equipment rack or wall mount

Any thoughts?

Hmmm...just had a thought. If I were to move my M60's upstairs, and replace them with a pair of M22's, that would give me about an extra 4" of width between the speakers. Hmmm....

Mitsubishi make some very nice TVs, and here are couple that may fit your bill in both scenarios....

We've just placed an order for the 73" model of these TVs. We also have a 37" plasma that has a very good picture but it sure throws out the heat, I couldn't imagine just how much heat the larger units must throw out.

I had the same issues and went with a Samsung last year. No side-mounted speakers and narrow bezel.... only a ~46" was just right for my small living room.

I'm sure the wife was not very happy with you Mark, standing on the back of the couch in the corner to grab that shot, pretty cool view of your room...

I'm going to have a similar issue when it is time, unless I rearrange the room. Is there a good site out there that shows how much space these TV's take up lengthwise. Even a 52" should not neccessarily take up that much space, since it is corner to corner, right. Mine is going to be a tight fit. I'm going to go measure to see just how tight.

That doesn't sound like our Mark. I'm sure he built a nice plaque, sanded and finished it carefully, attached himself to the front then mounted the plaque high in the corner where it would look good AND let him take the picture.

Spiff - Plasma has HAD to let DLP and LCD surpass them at this time. It is simply too expensive (or maybe even impossible) to build a reliable consumer based Plasma with 1080p resolution. The pixels would have to be so small that manufacturing such a srt would be infeasible. On the other hand, DLP sets are using a "wobulation" trick (of which I am sure you are aware) to make a 540 pixel mirror into a 1080 pixel mirror, by shifting the mirror half a pixel, every half frame - resulting, in an "apparent" 1080p picture.

Soon enough, though, plasmas will hit that level. I just worry a little bit about the processing power required to convert my lowly standard def and older DVD collection into a true 1080p image. It's gonna be messy. It almost makes me want to stick with a lower resolution, wobulated panel like the Sammy 5063 or the 5067...
