While the 1080p sets now available are superior to the 720p/1080i sets there still remains the fact that none will actually take a 1080p signal other than a few which will through RGB input from a computer. As I understand it this is because HDMI hdcp will not pass a 1080p signal. This will will again become an upgrade issue as BLU RAY and HD DVD come out and eventually sort themselves out and offer 1080p. With your position to wait for a true 1080p display, I think it is still a waiting game.

Sounds like it's a waiting game overall with TVs. Me, I wouldn't touch HDMI with a 10 foot pole at this point.

The 1080p Panasonics are out in Japan, starting November 1. They have the technology...and the buzz is that it looks awesome.

I have heard rumors of Spring 2006 debut for the US...

md55: that is not true. It has been reported that the new HP HDTVs will accept 1080P signals.

I bought the new Sony 60" SXRD. Transmission of 1080P to the set was not an issue for me. I am not a gamer and I believe that there is only one DVD (a Chinese model) that will actually transmit a 1080P signal.

Of course, 2006 will bring added improvements!!
