I am looking for a great sub to compliment an Axiom system (M60, VP150, QS8)in the $800-1,200 range. I want a sub setup that is a beast for home theatre yet remains respectable for music listening.

Recently, I have been eyeing these subs:
- ACI Titan II LE
- SVS (built-in amp, various models)

First, I would like to know if anybody has ever listened to the ACI Titan II? If so, what are your thoughts? Anybody researched this sub at all?

Secondly, I would appreciate a little help as to what SVS setup to consider. I require a powered sub and would probably prefer a built-in amp. Aside from that I don't know if I should consider a box or cylinder type? Aesthetically, I could live with either type...space and looks really are not an issue.....I just want the best possible sound experience for my money. I am even open to the possibility of a dual SVS setup (16-46PC for example)unless that would lead to overkill. I am currently in a moderate-sized room but am looking at houses currently...so that is likely change.

Any input, comments, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

take a look at the vmps line of subs(passive )i have the vmps large sub and it is great.if you buy from a authorised dealer you can save a few bucks also.external amps are nice because you can upgrade to a bigger one at some point.
i looked for months for a sub till i found this one, also you might take a look at avs fourum theres a thread about people who gave up svs for vmps.

They guys at SVS are extraordinarily responsive and helpful -- drop them an email and they'll help you figure out what you need.

You might want to add the Hsu VTF-3 to your list.

If you end up with SVS, they'll recommend the cylinder. They can give you all the details as to why a cylinder is better if you want them. Personally, I tried the PCi25-31 and the HSU VTF-2 and preferred the HSU. The size factor was better on it as well, but that doesn't sound like its an issue for you. Just a word of warning....you won't realize just how big the SVS is until it is actually setup in your house. I was expeting big, but it was still larger then I expected.

I too must recommend the Hsu. In your case the VTF-3. And for the budget you've given yourself, you could even get their beautiful new Rosewood model. It's really nice.

Unless you have a huge room, dual SVSs will definately be overkill. I've got the same Axioms as you mated with a SVS 20-39PC+. This is in a 15' x 15' room that is open to my kitchen. I'm running the SVS about 6db hot, and that's at 10% gain on the sub's amp. The bass output of this sub is incredible, and frankly more than I could ever use without moving to a much larger room.

Although I can't directly compare my SVS to the ACI unit, I can't stress how happy I've been with the SVS. I would highly reccomend both the company and their products.

Endaar

Thanks for the input. I will include the HSU VTF-3 as a possibility. The Rosewood looks nice....but too 'Rocket-like' for my taste. Black will do the trick just fine.

My living room is similar to yours as it is L shaped. Take a 20'long X12'wide room and then connect an 8'X6'room at the very end of the 20' run to make an L shape...that basically sums it up. The wall that adjoins the L shape seperates the living room from the Kitchen and has an opening above the kitchen countertop so one can see into the living room from the kitchen (maybe 2' tall by 8' wide).

I am not too caught up in the room size factor as I am currently shopping for a new home and I will make sure that the home I purchase will have a large living room or possibly a large room I can use as a dedicated home theatre room.

I suppose all I need for now is one sub...and can always add one later if needed.

I have pretty much ruled out the ACI Titan. It appears this sub is wonderful for music...but only so so for home theatre.

Another interesting candidate would be the new SVS PB2-Plus box sub. It is like a bigger brother of the SVS' own PB1-ISD and the Hsu VTF-3.

I agree with Sushi here. I'd definitely wait until the first round of PB2+ subs ship out from SVS (happening right now) and reviews start pouring in. I've got the first box sub from SVS, the PB1-ISD and it's an amazing sub for both music and movies. If I call mine a beast, the PB2 must be the king of all beasts.
