Has anyone here had experience with in-walls? I'm very tempted to use them in the rear. What are some good models? I've seen some nice name brand in-walls on Ebay go for pretty good prices. What are some I should keep my eye out for?

Certainly nothing has a higher WAF than in-walls. I would never use them for mains, but as surrounds I could get away with it, no?

Is Axiom doing any R&D on in-walls of their own?

I don't even have the room yet, I'm just planning for the future. Right now I'm apartment living, but plans are being brewed for buying our first home. When that day comes, I've already claimed one of the bedrooms or den as the HT room, but most likely it will be a small room, not a large living room. Of course you realize this means I'll have to buy an all new system for 2 channel music in the living room.

Claiming the room as a dedicated ht room before said house is built, should negate the WAF. Check in the "Man's Room Rule Book", page 24, section 12, paragraph 3. Check with the in house lawyer too, but I'm almost sure it's your domain to do with as you please. Now you don't have to live with in wall sound.

Would I lose my own "man" card if I said I like the idea of in-wall rears myself? Though if the sound difference is that tremendous, I wouldn't do it.

The thing with in-walls is that, no matter how well they are designed, a lot of how they sound has to do with the wall they are placed in. The wall becomes an extension of the speaker's cabinet and will resonate, to some degree, with it.

In-wall home speakers are similar to in-door car speakers. I've heard some really bad car speakers (like the ones in the Mitsubishi Galant I'm renting) that color the music something awful. They make the Bose speakers in my own car (Nissan Maxima) sound like gold.

Now I'm going to go off on a slight tangent. I'm on a business trip and the rental car I have only has a CD player. I brought a tape adapter with my iPod, so it's pretty much useless. I had to buy some CDs (Jack Johnson, Nick Cave, Daniel Lanois) to tide me over because the radio stations in Southern California suck monkey butt.

I'm listening to the CDs in the car and the content itself is good, but the car really butchers the audio. I can't wait to get home and throw the CDs into my home system (M22s, SVS sub) and hear them as they were meant to be heard.

I'm a LONG way off from having my own little HT room yet. I was just kicking the idea of in-walls around. More than likely I'll end up with a few QS4's. (Fear not Amie!)

Yes, so Cal radio sucks. You can find decent music most of the time, but you must continuously skip from station to station. If you're out in the IE check out 96.7 KCAL - raunchy morning show and headbanger/classic rock the rest of the time. Just gotta keep scanning around...or just put in a CD.

I listen to cd's. LA radio mainly consists of about 25 songs that are on a continuous repeat. It's mind numbing.

Dude, the radio sucks where you live. Don't try to tell me there's a good station up here, other than NPR.
