Good Evening,

Back in July I posted if anybody in the Cincinnati area would be willing to do a front projector demo for me. I had a great response and was able to visit several homes and see demos of a CRT, DLP and LCD front projector setups. This helped me purchase my Optoma H31....

Well, my wife.....yes my wife has suggested that we look to upgrade to a 720 projector becauase she has started to notice the SDE of the H31. We have also decided that we would like to have HD cable in the basement. My brother has offered to purchase my H31 if I decide to upgrade.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody within about a 100 mile radius of Cincinnati would be willing to demo a 720P DLP or LCD projector for me? If so, please feel free to email me at jrobison@cinci.rr.com or PM on this foum. I would appreciate it.

By the way, nothing goes better with a front projector than a set of Axiom speakers.

Thanks in advance.

COACH.

Jeff, I've had my eye on the 31 as well. I know very little about projectors, but I thought the Optoma had was a DLP with a 6 segment wheel spinning at 4x? I didn't think that you would get SDE (ScreenDoorEffect) with DLP - only rainbows?

Also, I thought I read that it does 480p, 720p, and 1080i?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to learn.

The H31 is a 854 x 480 native projector. You can watch higher resolution material, such as HD, but it has to be scaled. A native HD projector, 1280 x 720 or higher, will produce a better rusult of HD material.

All projectors have pixelation, it is not just an LCD thing. The grids on LCD panels can make them look more apparant, however the latest models are giving DLP a run for the money.

Below is a quote from projector central dot com

"The H31 is not a high-resolution projector. At native 854x480, visible pixelation can become a problem in the enjoyment of the image. Using an image of 100" width, a viewer must be approximately 14 feet away from the image for all pixelation to disappear, or 1.75 times the screen width. This puts the viewer at about the same distance from the screen as the projector. So the lack of visual and noise distractions from the unit become all the more valuable – luckily, the H31 handles these areas well. "

There is still SDE with DLP, it's just not as noticable. I don't know all the details, but I see it with my DLP if I get within 5 or 6 feet to my screen, but not otherwise.
