Well,

Ajax and I did Craig's sub GTG yesterday. Had a great time and made some new friends. Thought you might want to see the results in this AVS thread .

Is it now OK to head on over to the AVS site without packing?

My last visit over there gave me the uneasy feeling that I was in the middle of a bazooka fight at the O.K. Corral.

Wow... the fighting on AVSForum started BEFORE the results were posted... why am I not surprised ? I'm only two pages in and they're already picking on Craig for only allowing inspection of the subs AFTER the tests and not BEFORE

EDIT - Looks like things went very well at the GTG. More thanks to Craig for setting this up, and to everyone who participated.

It's unfortunate to have to wade through some of that, but the good stuff starts toward the second half. Hang with it and check out the participant results. I posted here because it was my first experience with an EP 500 and it is a special product. Thought all should know.

Congratulations to Ian for making this puppy!

Agreed. When we were up for the picnic in the summer we talked to Ian a bit about subwoofer design, specifically the complaints about the cabinet not being sufficiently stiff. Without going into details, it was clear that Ian had very good reasons for designing the cabinet the way he did, and also that there was a clear and well-thought-out design philosophy behind the high end subs.

I still think an EP400 would be a good idea, though

I'd be happier with the EP 500 at the EP 400 price.

Thanks Craig, Ray, Jack and everyone involved in this GTG.
I've been following that thread closely all day and was afraid it was going to turn into another pisssing match. Much to my surprise it hasnt .............yet.
Now if we could get one (GTG not pissing match) going a little closer to TX.

Tastefully done, as always, Ray. Wish I could have been there.

Thanks for the pointer; I can't bear to frequent AVS.

I cannot tell you all how much fun this event was. Meeting the people was, by far, the best part of the whole thing. I had met Craig and Ray before, of course, and consider them both close friends.

Bossobass (Dave), who I know from the av123 forum was a particular treat. He, like me, is a musician, and we hit it off really well. He, also, is a flat out expert on subwoofers, having built a number of them himself.

John, is a devoted audio junkie, with a passion for learning, and is a new Axiom subwoofer fan. He is far more knowledgeable than I when it comes to subs.

Jeff and his son Nick, are relatively new to the hobby, and had to make a 6 hour drive to attend. That'll show you how deep their interest is. They actually made it a whole audio weekend, traveling to an Ascend owner's house on Saturday to listen an Ascend system of 340s.

There are few things more fun than gathering with folks who share one's passion for this hobby.

bray, Tom - thanks for the kind words.

I have to echo Jack here. As far apart as we are geographically, I relish the opportunity to see he and Craig when it presents itself.

Now I've had the additional benefit of meeting John, Dave, Jeff and Nick. Fr my taste, this kind of thing is priceless. In these GTGs you NEVER hear of the kind of infighting that permaetes too many forum threads. Pressing the flesh and cracking a beer with this hobby as a background is dificult to beat.
