Right now Comcast is offering a telephone service too.If I were to go with the phone service which includes unlimited local, local toll and long distance combined with the internet it is cheaper than what I have with SBC.I am going to call Comcast again and make certain there is no hidden charges. If not I will likley change my service. Thanks to all for the replies.

I used to live in Washington DC before moving to N. VA and had Comcast cable. It sucked!!! I don't know about internet, but I can imagine it can be faster than Verizon DSL I use. However, the price is hard to beat (I pay $32 a month for my DSL), and I use wireless connection as well for my bedroom laptop (which of course can be used to balcony in summer as well).

A little secret for you Comcast users for Internet....I don't know if they are still doing it, but they were and maybe still are having a promotion. If you call up and complain about the price, they knock off $20 a month for 6 months.

I agree that the Comcast cable service in D.C. is no good. They are slowly gettign better, but low-bandwidth HD broadcasts mean that they often break up (causing digital blockiness on occassion), the "OnDemand" feature shoudl really be called "OnOurWhim - IfYou'reLucky" because it only sometimes works and channels are annoyingly numbers (local channels start in the twenties).

The service in N. Va. was much better - better box, better customer support, better bandwidth, etc.

But the internet is really quite fast, which seems to be the main concern of the original post.
