This is more of a curiosity question then anything else. I have The VP150, M22, QS8, and HSU VTF-2. I generally listen to music in 2.1, however recently I have started playing around with all channel stereo for music. It seems to have a little bit of a different sound, but certainly fills the room more with the surrounds being in effect.

So, how do most of you do your music listening? 2.1, all channel, favorite DSP mode(I doubt this one, but you never know)?

I listen to 2-channel music materials in the DPL II Music mode most of the time, with the "center width" set a bit broader than the default (meaning, the center channel level set a bit lower than default). Especially, when I listen to the FM classical station, I always use the DPL II. When I listen to CD's (mostly classical), I sometimes use the 2.1 Stereo mode, depending on the nature of the particular recording. But my "default" is the DPL II now.

I usually listen to music in Dolby Pro Logic 2: Music as well.
I like the simple signal for the surrounds as an additive component but for some recordings can sometimes collapse the sound a bit into the centre.
Sushi's suggestion of widening the center channel (receiver settings) works well.
My preference would probably still be for a completely 5.1 channel dvd-a or sacd recording if i had such equipment and music.

Heck, I listen to 2 channel music on my 2.1 system in Dolby Pro Logic 2:Music and it sounds way better than stereo. Love that Dolby!

I'm with Haoleb. I bought a highly accurate speaker package so that I could be assured that what I heard was as close to the engineer's intention as possible. Stereo music is engineered with a stereo setup in mind and that is how I listen to it.

I'm thinking 10.2 sound is what you prefer, esp with a "Concert Hall" DSP. Right? ;-)

Semi,

The "as the engineer intended" argument stands up really well on expertly mastered music, but if you hold yourself to that for all music, you're really missing out on the fun! So take that highly accurate speaker package and give DPL II a shot. At worst, you'll hear some highly accurate surround that sounds great, but isn't what the engineer intended. :P

I'm not crazy about the sound of that DPL for TV, movies or music. Concert DVDs in Dolby Dig., but otherwise - two M60s in Direct or Stereo 2-channel mode.
