OK. I've had enough. I mean enough is enough! I fire up my Axiom gear, and it sounds great. Then it happens. Each and EVERY day.... I have to get in to my car and deal with, dare I say it? Bad audio! I mean, what do these car companies think that they are doing when the purchasing department picks out the stereo and speakers that they put into their vehicles. Do they think that people don't care about how the audio sounds?
I know that people here have asked, "When is Axiom going to make car speakers?" and other similar questions. I waited, know that it would most likely never happen, nor is it a great business path for Axiom, but enough is enough.
I broke down and had to upgrade the audio in my car. Now, I was trying to keep the cost down... I mean, this is just a car after all, and I mainly drive it to and from work only, but I didn't want generic off-brand Walmart stuff either. So a little eBay shopping (actually got a great deal on some speakers) and some Froogle.com searching for a new head unit (CD player/radio for the old schoolers here). Found another deal there too. Now, many people know that I am a fan of Pioneer gear (always had good luck with them) and I have a Ford (who, in their infinate wisdom uses non-standard sized car speakers) and Pioneer is one of the only brand name speaker manufacturers for Ford sized speakers. So I dropped some coin on a pair of 4-way and a pair of 3-way speakers. Through in their 6700 series head unit, and all I can say is WOW what a difference. Still not the same as my Axioms, but come on, this is just a car. Accoustics are less than ideal, and my budget was a lot less.
Has anyone else felt the need to upgrade some other audio system thanks to Axiom making such a great product?

Yup....thought about upgrading!
Would need to take out the front passengers' seat and replace it with an M80 and throw an EP600 in the back.
The problem with my "always topless" '87 Jeep Wrangler(bought it in '87 as my all-weather-four-wheeled-motorcycle)is it's generally too noisy for any kind of serious sound system
Works great here in Florida, though!
My Son wants to set me up with a system like his, but I kinda draw the line with having to add an extra battery or two to help the 2000W amps driving the multiple 12s or 15inchers he recomends.
It'd bust over the background noise though!
If I'm gonna get silly....an M80 and an EP600 will do
Seriously....I would like a better sound system in my dear ol' Jeep, but it's not a very realistic idea.
.....maybe if I put the doors back on....
Phooie!

If I still had the minivan I would be putting W3s in it.
Still not sure about EP600-class car audio. With the windows up it would hurt, and with the windows down all the bass would leak out.

I still have a minivan...the EP600 and the M80s would fit in the back if I took out the third row seat...Hmm..something to consider! :-)

Oh man, I still remember the days when turned 16 and had to drive my mom's 77 pinto wagon with wood grain exterior panels. For a short time I put my Radio Shack Optimus loudspeakers in the back. Yes, there was no more room to lay in the back and make-out with chicks on weekend nights, but the tunes sounded good with my JVC deck and Tancredi EQ booster.
Didn't take me long to save up for that first Camaro and ditch the wagon.

Whenever I first got out of the Army in 1980 I drove an old early edition Pinto station wagon (sans the 'woody' treatment) for quite a while, not a thing you could do to make them look cool. What a chick magnet that thing was! Looking back, I actually did pretty well with that car.
Those were the days.

My first real car was a '55 Pontiac and it actually had a pretty good sounding radio in it. So good in fact that after I kilt it by doing "neutral slams" I felt obligated to install the radio from the Pontiac into my new Austin Healey 100-6.
Only problem was, the old tube radio was so heavy that after installing it, I almost had to move the battery(I converted the two 6Vs to a single 12V for convenience)to the other side of the trunk to mantain the vehicles' balance
....it would over-steer to the right and spin out much more readilly than it would spin out to the left....

Car audio is probably more intense than home audio. There’s some pretty trick stuff out nowadays and system that sound amazing. –not just loud.

Only trying to help.
I've got a lot of great help with my vehicle systems there. The SQ board in particular. There are some guys who put well over 20K in there car systems. It's not just about rattling windows with subwoofers anymore.

I think if you put an EP600 in the back of a van...the cars next to you would vibrate.

that already happens with far lesser subwoofers.

Ok, fine, any car in the near viscinity.
And, I have another axiom rant. They make my earphones that I invested some money in sound like crap. Stupid axiom. :P

Get some better earphones. My headphones (Sennheiser HD580) still sound quite good, though I do find the bass a little lacking since adding the PB10 to my speaker rig.

I don't know how much car audio gear I've lost to break-ins. It just isn't worth it to me anymore. As much as I would love to install a better system (and a speaker upgrade alone are all it would take to get better sound in most vehicles - though it was never enough for me) it is not worth the hassle.
I figure that I will, at some point, buy a pair of Etymotics ear phones and a decent MP3 player (or even my minidisc player). Talking to one of my friends who is an officer, he said that in our area, they allow the use of one earphone (typical of a hands-free cell phones) but two is not allowed.
The way I reason it is that if I had a decent stereo, I wouldn't hear anything else anyway. .

Oh man.
So, ok. BEFORE I had my axioms, I probably had the best sound system around all of college, 5.1 Klipsch Promedia's for computer. Everyone would watch a movie and be like...wow! And whatever. So, when I got my axioms, I listened to them at home, then brought them to college, and didn't even care to listen to my klipsch's and simply just plopped my axiom's in place.
So, here I am, on break, and brought my Klipsch's home. I set them up on this computer to listen to music to replace some really crappy computer speakers. And guess what thought went through my mind...."These speakers....suck"
Everything sounds higher, but with a very low rumbling part to them. Absolutely no midrange and no highs. I miss my axiom's.
Axiom has ruined my music-listening life. Oh brother.

Heh Heh! I have the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 for my computer. I think they are excellent computer speakers. But, nonetheless, I stil run my Pandora listening through my main system. Excellent computer speakers will NOT compare with excellent speakers.

Yea, my dad wants to use the klipsch speakers for the TV room. It's going to take a few adapters to get it all connected to the DVD player.
