As a Canadian who is constantly PO'ed by the much higher prices of HK products in Canada, I was surprised to see some posts mentioning that Costco was now selling (at least occasionally) the entire line of HK receivers.

I can't find the posts now, but posters talked about buying everything from 130 up to 635 and extremely good prices. Worth a look if you are in Canada and in the market for a good AV receiver...

This is the latest from my Costco email:
Denon AVR-3805 Audio/Video Receiver $1,099.99

Thats not a bad price Crutchfield is asking $899.99 which works out to $1,038.77 Canadian. And Costco has a ridiculously easy return policy as well.

I'll drop in my local stores this week and see what they both are carrying. Btw Radio Shack is now back in Burlington, I'm going to drop in there as well and see what if anything is new.

Believe it or not, I was price hunting for 3805's around Christmas and Crutchfield was actually selling them for $799 till about mid-January. Denon will honor the warranty if the receiver is bought from Crutchfield. I'm not sure about Costco. Also, doesn't the 3805 retail for $1100 US?

costco will not be responsible for the warranty. their website indicate that buyers must deal with denon (warranty with denon still hold). But you can also just return it to costco if something goes wrong as they have great return policy.

I would check around your local audio shop. often they might give you a better deal than costco.

I gotta say though...the denon 3805 still is just not worth the price compared to the Pioneer 1015tx...i compared them directly, sound for sound, feature for feature, as well as the marantz units, and that pioneer is just impossible to beat IMHO

I had both of these also and although I agree in principal I'm not sure the comparison is fair. The Denon has far more advanced user settings then the Pioneer and is a little bit more flexible. I do however agree that when the Denon 3805 first came out it was way overpriced given what else was out there. The Pioneer on the other hand is a great receiver and came out at a decent price right off the bat.

As for Costco, I'm heading there in about an hour. If they have HK I will post back. I was there about a week ago and didn't see any Denon or HK stuff but with Costco, that can change over night.

what settings does the 3805 have over the 1015tx? first off, the 1015tx has upconversion to compenent, the 3805 does not. second, and not so importanly, the 1015tx is THX2, the 3805 is not. im just not sure what you mean by more user settings? if you play around with the 1015tx, i think you'll find all the settings you need. explain more if you can.

<<The AVR-3805 is equipped with a function for up-converting video
signals.
Because of this, the AVR-3805’s MONITOR OUT jack can be
connected to the monitor (TV) with a set of cables offering a higher
quality connection, regardless of how the player and the AVR-3805’s
video input jacks are connected.>>

THX2 should not be a deciding factor........in the least. Some of the best gear on the planet doesn't carry the THX logo.

All I'm saying is I have owned them both and they are two completely different animals. Pull up the specs on the 1015 and the 3805 including the vast array of cross over settings in the 3805 and it's not hard to tell which one is more feature packed. I’m not saying better, but there are differences.

Costco by the way had no Denon or HK products at all. If there coming out my way, they are not here yet.
