I'm thinking of getting a couple of QS8's to replace my current surrounds before the price change, I've got a few questions that I know you guys can help me with.

1. How do these speakers sound, as compared to using normal bookshelf speakers for movies and SACD.

2. Since I'll have to use these speakers on stands, are there any options other than the Axiom stands. 270.00 is a little more than I want to spend.

Thanks Michael

In terms of sound quality, frequency response, clarity etc... they are extremely good. Think of 2x M2s in a little box.

I replaced M2s with QS8s... for movies it was no comparison, the QS8s gave the illusion of a big theater while the M2s sounded like 2 speakers. For music I still slightly prefer the M2s because they give a sharper location for the back channels (music somehow doesn't sound right diffused around the room) but that's my only criticism. For a movie system I don't think QS8s can be beat.

Remember that you only need stands if there is no possible way to wall mount them on side or back walls.

It is amazing how you can place QS8s and get great sound. My 8s are not symmetrical to my listening position, but it doesn't matter. WAF - they are placed where they look good.

Look for a ceiling mount or wall mount that you think won't work and put an 8 there just to see. You'll be surprised. With the 8s. Placement can be real easy.

Take two of your 532s, place them close together, but firing off axis instead of directly at you (one to the side and one up, maybe). Recalibrate your SPLs and take a listen. You might get a sense of what the QS8s do.

I replaced direct-radiating with the 8's and will never look back! Very enveloping for surround, but I don't listen to a lot of multi-channel music so no comment there.

I have mine mounted to 5' tall stands. I used the included TEE bracket that comes with the Q's. I modified the stands which supported my old surrounds. I mounted the bracket to a couple pieces of wood which I then screwed into the supports of the stand. It actually mounts as if a wall were behind them, only there's vertical uprights there instead.
The stands were custom made for me by a friend many years ago, and these are the 3rd pair of surrounds they have supported. Good planning on my design I guess! If you like, I can send you a PDF file showing how I mounted them....just give me an email address!

Thanks everyone, no possibility for wall or ceiling placement, but Ed send me some good plans where I may be able to modify my existing stands. If I can't work it that way I'll wait to see if Axiom comes out with some more goodies in the next few months
