Hi, Guys:

I have a Philips 42PF7320A/37 Plasma TV. It has a built-in turner to watch the OTA HD channels. I am trying to get the better sound, so i connectted the coaxial audio out to my Yamaha RXV-2600 reciever. I could not get any sound. I tried the three coaxial inputs, none of them works. And i tried two coaxial calbes(All new, PureAV). Is there a simple way to test the coaxial audio output on the back of my HDTV? By the way, My two DVD players were connectted with my Yamaha reciever using coaxial cables, they both works great.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Han

Check your settings on the tv to make sure audio is set to line out. May make a difference. Maybe the speakers have to be turned off? Just guessing.

Philips Contact Suport

Make sure your receiver inputs are on.

Check the dumb things first... your Yamaha receiver... when you hooked up the digital coaxial to the different coaxial inputs on your receiver... (far left in this image... they may not be in the same place on your AVR - this is a Yamaha RX-Z9) did you go into the INPUT menu on the receiver and reassign the input you used each time to the source you were using? ie: if you had it plugged into the DVD coaxial in, did you make sure in the input menu on the AVR that "3" (the number under the DVD Coaxial Digital input) was assigned to "DVD" or "DTV" or whatever SOURCE you're using.

Failing that if you have a multimeter and want to simply test if you're getting a signal out of the digital out on the TV... put the negative lead to the shield, the positive lead to the pin and look for a 1VDC peak to peak signal.

If you have nothing, look through the tuner manual to see if the digital out needs to be enabled.

Hi, BrenR:

The coaxial inputs layout of my RX-V2600 are similiar to the RX-Z9 2,3 and 4 except 1. And it has same default settings. I reassigned the DVR to DTV. So i use the 3 and 4 for my two DVD players respectively. I suspect there is something wrong with my TV coaxial output, but it is hard to believe. I just bought it two months ago.

Hi thanwu,

Bugbitten's advice is good. Go into the Philips TV menu and make certain that you enable "coaxial digital audio out". If you just set "line out" it might enable the analog audio line outputs and not the digital audio output.

On my Scientific Atlanta HD8300 tuner/DVR, every so often I have to go into its menu and re-set "Dolby Digital Out", otherwise I don't get the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack broadcast with many HD shows.

Han,

How do you have your DVD players connected to the plasma?

I looked at the manual for the plasma and on page 34 it states: "Due to legal requirements, it is possible that with certain copy protected PCM audio qualities from a device connected to the HDMI input, the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT signal is muted."

Not sure if this is the case but a possiblity.

Just another set of eyes...

First thank you guys for the suggestion. Here is my set up:

DVD----Component vido----AV reciever
----coaxial audio---- AV reciever
HD reciever---DVI/HDMI---AV reciever
---optical----AV reciever-----HDMI-----Plasma TV.
I could not find a setting in the menual special for digital -out like Alan mentioned. And it should have nothing to do with my HDMI connection when i watch OTA HDs, it is built-in tuner for the plasma TV....It might be the copy right protection.

Thank you guys again,

Han

Han,

Just for grins, you might try disconnecting the HDMI input from the back of the plasma and see if then you get the TV audio into the receiver...

If it doesn't, you haven't lost anything...
