FOUR MONTHS?! I'd have killed for getting mine done in that short of time! My 65" Mits has been mothballed for ELEVEN months!

I've done it all pretty much on my own or with the help of friends and relatives. Were it not my decision to hire professionals for the harder stuff (heating, plumbing, finish/texture the drywall and trim work), I'd be looking to complete it sometime in May or June!

Four months? BRAVO my firend! Excellent job!

Today I hope to finish installation of the ceiling grid, then get the tiles all up on Friday. I have yet to terminate my RG6 and Cat5e and have three dedicated circuits to patch in to the breaker box (I have to un-staple and re-organize wires around the breaker box).

Hope to have my Axioms mounted sometime late on Saturday. WOO-HOOOO!

Spence you don't even want to know. This was four dedicated months of turning an outside screen room into a media room consisting of busting concrete, framing, trussing, electrical, plumbing, drywall ... except for the A/V wall plates I did everything with the help of a neighbor. I'd never do it again.

How do you like the Mitsubishi TV? We have our new 73" Mitsubishi being delivered this morning but I can't hook it up until after they lay the carpet tomorrow. Dang!

Are you terminating all of your RG6 and Cat5 yourself?

Congrats on the room, it turned out really great and believe me my friend I'll be toasting you this weekend!

I'm employed in the Info. Tech. sector so I've got all of my own cabling equipment so I'm able to terminate things on my own.

Your project is light years ahead of mine! I started with a basement, laid down DriCore, floated walls on top of it, did electrical, LAN, CATV and hung drywall, and painted it.

...it has still taken me nearly a year to get this close to being done (I have a 3 year old wanting to help).

Your sounds shiny*!

Sadly it isn't a dedicated Home Theater so much as a family room/Home Theater (I have a 3 year old daughter counting the days when she can take some toys down there and run around). For this reason, I did what I could afford where sound was concerned. I had wanted to go with dual layers of 5/8's inch rock, but after shelling out an unbudgeted $2K for DriCore (did all except root cellar and mechanical room), my wife begged me to stop there. :|

As for the Mitsubishi? I've loved it since it came to my home in 2000. It was a third generation Mits HD (Diamond Series) but doesn't have a built in DTV tuner, or digital inputs. My wife made me promise that I wouldn't upgrade sets for 10 years (isn't that cruel & unusual?) so I am counting the months and have my eye on a 73" Mits DLP or LCoS. I figure by 2009-2010, the technology will be commonplace, and with upcomming LED technologies replacing current DLP color wheels, quality may be a bit better.

...so for now, I'm kind of screwed where BluRay and HD-DVD are concerned (I have no HDMI input), at least until I upgrade!

Be sure to post or link to photos of your project to inspire (or scare away) others interested in DIY projects!

The big question now is whether or not you future-proofed your cable runs by including a few fiber runs.

Sadly no fiber (expenses), but my LAN is set up for 1GB full duplex.

Fiber for the next home!

I'm with Spence, no fiber runs but I betcha there's an additional 1500 or so miles on my truck making beer runs during the past few months. I don't know about 'future proofing' anything, but the drywall sure looks a hell of a lot better.

Looks great!

What are the dimentions of the room? The distorted pictures give a nice panaramic view, but its hard to tell how big actually the room is. By the looks of the pictures, it looks massive, I bet its a little smaller?

Anyways, getting furnature in there, and maybe some on-the-wall rugs would help to cut down the echo time.

With the space it looks like you have...I say you put 20 theater seats in there and charge admission.

I'm quite a way off from beating you SirQuack.

My panoramic photos are a bit distorted and make the room look "cavernous" (it is, when compared to the area at our previous home). The overall dimensions are 27' deep, 25' wide, 8'2" high (with the exception of the framed area around the ductwork).

Sectional sofa delivered late yesterday. Final inspection completed today. I am still working to install the ceiling. The echo is nowhere near as bad as it was. I expect to only improve with the addition of other furnishings.

As much as I would love to have dedicated HT seating, I sold my wife when finishing the basement on the added family room and space for our 3 year old to play. ...so no, I doubt I'll ever be able to seat many more than 15 "close" (very close) friends.

...now that my wife is home, I'm sure I'll become more productive.
