How long are the cords that come with projects, typically?

I’m curious how y’all with ceiling mounted projectors protect it with a surge protector when the receptacle is on the ceiling next to the projector.

No clue what others are using, but one possible solution is to use a plug in surge protection unit.

In the 1.5 years I've been using a projector, power surges haven't been an issue. But what many projector users protect against is a loss of power while the unit is on. Replacement bulbs are typically in the $300-500 range and sudden powerloss is hard on them. Many owners invest in a UPS to protect against this (I haven't and so far have been lucky, but they are so cheap now I think responding to this post has reminded me it is foolish not to. I think I'll pick one up tomorrow.).

Projector power cords are typically about 6' long. I've got a drop down ceiling so the receptacle is mounted on an overhead floor joist hidden from view. Should be no problen to mount a UPS beside it.

Good luck.

I have an outlet box on the ceiling next to my projector that the projector is plugged into, from there within the ceiling/walls I have a 12-2 electrical wire running over to another junction box in my AV closet. The junction has a cover on it used for cable connection. I removed the fitting, so now there is just a round hole. I bout a 3ft cord with a plug on one and and the wires on the other. The plug goes to my Tripplite conditioner/surge protector, and the wire end is stuck through the hole and wired to the other wires that run to the projector. I know it sounds cobbled, but works for me.

I was going to somthing simular to that, or just build a longer cord for the project.

Thanks Dennis. I should have known that there was such an animal.

The UPS is probably a good idea hear. We have frequant brown outs along with black outs. Very hard on electronics.

BTW, atm you can buy a 3 stage power condictioner for an outstanding price.

I just bought the Monster HT3500MkII for $189 out the door not including the $50 rebate. This unit retais $3-400. Just saw the next version (HT3600) of it at my local HT store for $500.

You won't find anything close for best bang for your buck IMHO.
