Thanks for all the help. I finally found out it is my sound card. I was playing the audio book CD from iTunes and the sound card is configed to use "stereo speaker" as output. For whatever reason, the sound card add some crazy special effects to simulate the Carnegie Hall. Set the sound card outuput to "headphone" solves the problem. iPod and my other Creative MP3 player are fine.
Now my problem is the sound card has couple of dozens of output device choice and I have no idea what the card is trying to do. I guess my only choice is to leave it as "headphone", thanks to the really intuitive interface/naming design. :-(

Glad you found it. You had mentioned that "I am using iPod to drive a T-amp. Don't think it can give any "big concert hall" effect." so that throws off where we look for problems if it did happen with your PC but not with the iPod.

Yeah I was under the assumption that it was iPod to T-amp to speakers. Makes it hard to give advice when the offending piece is not even mentioned.
