Hmmm, you seem to be forgetting that 50 is the new 30, so we never really get older

There are numerous copies of movies distributed in varying incarnations...When I bought my copies of the Jurassic Park movies, I intentionally looked for the versions which had DTS as there were instances of both...some with and some without DTS, but the prices were the same...unless you are buying a "Special Edition" or somesuch which comes with an extra disk with all the featurettes on how it was made and a lot of sometimes worthless addtional information...If you do some additional research, you should be able to find most any movie (if it was offered in DTS) at a price comparable to most others...Double in price sounds like a rip-off...

Definitely don't settle for the prices at Worst Buy or Short Circuit City or other Mass Marketer...you can do better.

I get most of my DVDs at Amazon.com , since I discovered that most of the time I can get a used (and totally usable) copy for right around $10. Quite often it is less, so with shipping I rarely spend more than $13 or $14 MAX. I surf there way too often, ending up buying a movie nearly every week....... Out of more than 70 DVDs I've only had a couple of problems: full screen versions when wide screen was ordered; only one non-shipment. I still think it's a good way to go. Just stick with the vendors who have lots of feedback numbers and a high percentage of positive comments.
BTW, I find I like the greater dynamics of the DTS sound on my movies. I think there is more "detail" in the sound. Listening to DD after a DTS movie almost sounds a bit muffeled. Almost.

Very interesting thread! :-) I too buy a lot of DVDs from DeepDiscountDVD.com and Amazon.com. I try to get the DTS version whenever possible. But DTS DVDs are becoming more and more scarce everyday.

The only time my amp ever went into protect mode was using DTS. It is definitely louder at the same volume setting. I dont think it necessarily sounds better though.

Hey guys, thanks for the input.
I still find these online store like amazon a little more than what i can find on ebay. however, it takes awhile when you have to wait for item to end. Still, you would save 3-4 dollars on dvds. My most recent purchase last weeks was "stars wars silver box set","fifth element special edition", "snow falling on cedars","cinderella man", etc.

Does anyone have the Indiana Jones box set in widescreen. I am planning to get that this week. any thoughts on it???

I have it, but I haven't even taken the shrink wrap off. That really answers your questions, doesn't it?

That's funny, Ken. I, too, have many movies that are still perfectly preserved in shrink wrap. Waiting for that special day to open them up. Whenever that will be. . .
