i'm looking for advice on a subwoofer to help complete my system . for some reason i'm only looking at two company's don't ask why. Axiom has helped me build my new system with my m60's front speakers (very happy), my soon to arrive vp150 and qs8's, but axiom is not on my list for a sub . my room space is 17x17x14, i live in an apartment building so i don't want my neighbors to be knocking on my door the first day i connect it. svs and velodyne are the names on the list. possibly a low end cylinder sub from svs.not looking to spent more than $700. all this to be run through a soon to be released denon 2807 receiver. help

Hsu really has to be on your short list of choices.

Seriously.

I'm not joking.

Deadline, I think your confused by Spiff's post. HSU is a brand of sub, he did not say anything about why you don't have Axiom on your list?

Anyway, I will why would you not include Axiom as a candidate? It was very important for me to have all of my speakers with a matching color/finish. In regards to performance, their not bad either

I have a SVS PCi 20-39 and love it. Of course I bought it back when Axiom subs left a little to be desired. If I was buying it all over again today, I think that I would go with a nice Axiom sub. Granted it would cost me more than the SVS I have, but the cylinder subs are easier and cheaper to manufacture, so I would be paying for something that looked nice too. (My wife really does NOT like the looks of the SVS sub.)

For $700, though, you probably can get a better performing sub elsewhere than the EP350, but again, non-cylinder subs cost more to make, and you can't beat the look of matching finishes.

Just my 2 cents.

Based on his room/apt/requirements I think he can do better than the EP-125 or EP-175. If he was looking for something more substantial, I'd whole heartedly suggest he take a good hard look/listen at the EP-500/600.

For what he's describing, an STF-2 sounds like a good choice for him.

I have an HSU VTF3 and I really don't need it. I had a I'm gonna buy the big boy moment. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their subs. My son has a sealed(non-ported) PSB sub. I really like his. That might be something to look at.

My Outlaw LF 1 performs damn near as well as the EP 500 did. Doesn't hold a candle to the EP 600.

I'd pop the LF 1 on your short list too.

You wouldn't want it. Kitty got to it and put a bit of a goudge in the finish. And no, I didn't kill her, yet.

Well, littleb, as long as it sounds good, I don't care.

It's a black box that gets shoved in a corner, nothing really asthetic about it.

Geez, I missed it 9 times ? That's bad even for me.

Something else I should have included when my foundation was being poured.

I never saw it before either, but at my age it takes at least 7 times to remember.

Keep your eyes open. The HOs are starting to ship, I believe, and Craigsub soon will be getting a pair of the them. He returns from a cruise this Sunday. I'm sure he'll be posting his findings, probably at AVS, but you never know.

I have a downfiring Hsu sub on hard wood with no rug and have no issues at all. That's an odd comment.

It could be the newer generation of Hsu subs have spikes. The VTF 3 has brass spikes that I'm sure could damage hardwood floors.

ahh...that makes sense. I was thinking of an audio reasoning. I've got an older model VTF-2 with big rubber/plastic feet.

DL, also consider a sub which has tested very well and compares favorably with the other units mentioned and which is available at a bargain sale price, the Mirage S12 .

My Outlaw is on hard wood floors. It comes with large disks that go under the spikes. Sounds great.

A friend of mine put a piece of plexiglass under his down firing sub because he has thick carpet and to what he thought was an overall improvement.

i'm glad to hear you have know problems, but while speaking to someone at hsu
i was told that the hard wood floors would reflect the sound right back to the sub. which sub are you running ? and to you have spiked feet under your sub with your hard wood floors?

I have the VTF-2. No spikes. The older model that I have had bigger blocky style feet.

All you need to do is cut a peice of carpet or get a small throwrug to match your room and you are all set for the sub.

Actually, HSU recommends using a medium-thick carpet under the sub, that's how it was designed to work acoustically.

Is it better to use a natural fiber rug or synthetic? What if I throw a sheepskin under there?
