In about less than two month I'll buy my system and I think I will go with 2xM60s, 1xVP150, 4xQS8but I am still debating about which sub to get!
I can afford something in the range of the EP350 and I was thinking of getting it or the SVS PB12-ISD. Do you have any advice or other similar model that I should consider?

This system will be used mostly for movies and will be located in a dedicated HT room (12'x20'x8').

Thanks for the help!

I would get 2 QS8's and use the extra money to get the EP500. You are going to see a bigger improvement with a better sub than 7.1

Does the EP500 really make a difference in a room such as mine?

The EP500 is a beast. Your HT experience will make you watch all your dvds again.

I totally agree with Dan. Get the 500 now, add 2 more QS8s later.

I would have to agree also, the EP500 is a different monster altogether than the 350, you could always try the 350 and see if it fits your needs, then upgrade to the 500 if the 350 doesn't fit the bill.

Is there any other sub that is comparable to the EP500? I'd like to consider all the options.

Dude, my room is bigger than yours and the 500 is awesome. I know lots of people with rooms your size and smaller that love the 500 as well. However, in reality, a smaller sub would most likely work also. I would hate to see you get upgradeitis, like I did from my 350, which I also loved.

Of course there is . You might check out the SVS PB12 Ultra, the SVS PB12 Plus/2, the brand new HSU VTF-3 HO Turbo (I can't find it on their web site. I believe there is a slight delay while a minor driver problem is addressed), the Rocket UFW-12, or the beautiful ACI Titan XL. All are competent subwoofers, and each has advantages and disadvantages relative to the others. I happen to prefer the EP500 because of the DSP technology, it's linear frequency response, and it's relatively compact, unobtrusive footprint. YMMV.

Well can you really avoid upgradeitis? I mean wouldn't you want to get an EP600?
I definitely wouldn't mind buying the EP500 it's just I need to figure out how to fit all in my budget.

As Dan has said I could get 2 Qs8's and EP500... Decisions decisions! If it were up to me I would get it all, but I doubt she who must be obeyed will allow it... After the Axioms I'm supposed to build my HTPC and I doubt she will have the patience to go a couple more month paying for my toys. I guess we're going to have a pow wow tonight (well actually it's more like presenting my business plan to a potential investor or something like that...)

I second Dan. Go for the EP500 and just 2 QS8s. For movies, SACD, and DVD-A, it's all geared towards 5:1 anyway. The extra two surrounds use the same base signal as the other two surrounds - it's just number-crunched by your receiver/processor, sending a little more here or there. Please forgive my technospeak. With the multidirectional, room-filling QS8s, 5:1 will do just fine.
