This has been done before, but not in over six months. With many recent threads asking about receivers, I thought I'd lob this new poll out there. Maybe it can serve as a new reference.
So the question is, "Deal or ..." No, wait, the question is,
What receiver brand are you using to power your Axioms?
Thank You for voting!

Thanks, everyone, for your votes so far. Only 20 hours in, and we've got 72 votes.
Thought I'd share a few observations:
* No surprise that Denon is the leader with 20 votes - about that of the next two most popular brands combined.
* Looks like a half-dozen brands have essentially captured all of the market here. I am surprised to see so many zeros for the other brands listed and only 2 people using a brand not listed.
* Am I the only one surprised by the low number of separates users?

well, you didn't say 'which' system, so i voted for my HT system. I use seperates for my two channel system.

I too have both but I voted seperates because that's what I use with the M80s.

No, I am not surprise at the small number of seperates. Seperates cost a lot more and tend not to be as "cost effective" as a quality receiver.
I think that the people on this board tend to value HT equipment that is "cost effective." Otherwise, they probably would NOT have purchased Axiom.

wid - good point, I was thinking HT system or "main" system in the house if people have more than one, but I didn't say that explicitly.
ratpack - I agree with you on the cost effectiveness and how that is probably linked to the Axiom experience.
bugbitten - Yeah, I didn't think about the people using receivers into amps. That would be a good category to add, because there could be confusion about which way to answer that one.
Other notes - the HK and Yamaha people seem to be coming out of the woodwork, as the Denon lead is shrinking a little.

I also only voted for "Main System" but I have to mention that I am currently using Onkyos for both the main and Diningroom systems.
Happy with both.

I use my receiver in conjunction with separate amps but there was not a category for this choice so I just voted for my receiver brand.

I am actually surprised by the number of Sonys!!!
I am an electronics tech by trade, and if its one thing I have learned over the years, its "goto a plumbers house, all the faucets leak, goto a mechanics house, and he has non-running vehicles in the yard...etc", so when I bought my AVR, quality, features, price, and WARRANTY was very important to me. I know Sony is not very well reguarded in the audio arena, but I love my SonyES and don't think I could have done better for the price.
If they were in the price bracket and had comparible warranties at the time I purchased, I probably would have went with Integra or Denon though.

I'm going to develop a separate amplifier and market it heavily to Denon owners for use as an outboard amp. It will be piano black and have a red LED level meter. I'll call it Mortis, the Latin word for death, which fits the color scheme nicely.
Why market it to Denon owners? The slogan says it all:
Nothing fits your Denon better than a Mortis

Mortise and tenon. (sounds like a law firm) = Mortis and Denon.
Simple and strong, the mortise and tenon joint (also called the mortice and tenon) has been used for millennia by woodworkers around the world to join two pieces of wood, most often at an angle close to 90°.

Considering my bad experience with Denon DVD players I'd say you keyed a perfect latin word for the product.
BTW - Maybe the poll should have a place for those who need to input which seperate amp/rec. they do have - just a suggestion.

System 1
Sony TA-E9000ES Processor 5.1
Anthem PVA-5 5 channel amplifier
Comments: Fantastic combination, superb for movies and for music. ***** (5 out of 5*)
System 2
Integra DTC 9.4 Processor 7.1
(3) Yamaha M80 2 channel amps
(1) Onkyo Integra M504 2 channel amp.
Comments:
Excellent, more features than TA E9000ES, THX ultra2, 7.1 instead of 5.1, great sound for music and movies. Of course, the Thiel CS 3.6 fronts help show this sytem off to the max.

Very interesting. According to the poll Denon is the most used receiver. Is it price or are they really that good?

Through the years I had 2 Denons and at the time liked them very much. However when on my 2nd I began to get frustrated with the lack of control over the restricted control in controling the low end cut off filter with the various channels. My friend has a Yamaha and he has much in that realm. However, what I really started to find annoying was what seems to be a lack of higher frequencies in the signal. It was almost like there was a high cut filter (like applied to THX processors). That when I started to looking to other amp/rec'ers. I was pushed furter away from the product when I encountered poor customer care over repeated and multi-problems with their DVD players. When I blundered into a SONY player that had better quality than my 2910 Denon, with better compatibility with various discs ( I go through a lot of DVDs since I review them) - I was forced to re-think the view I held of a product and company I thought I admired. After auditing the Sherborn I was sold. The difference was really apples and oranges - a completly different animal.

Are you saying that Axioms are cheap? Or are you saying that if we could afford $30000 speakers we would buy those instead just because we can? All the reviews I have read, and all the people I have talked to, say many good things about axiom speakers.

I think we all tend to look for the best bang for the buck, remember the more you spend doesn't mean the more you get in audio. Imho opinion Axioms are great speakers at a great price, so why spend twice as much.

I guess the more you make, the more you spend on everything you do. But you are still 10% in dept like everyone else.
The Axiom 80 500s (7.1 setup) are not much more than my current Klipsch (7.1 setup) system. They must be comparable in performance. I just want something else to compare to. I do not know anyone else that has a HT setup close to mine, so it is up to me to provide the second set of speakers.
I wonder what kind of speakers I could have purchased if I spend $10k on one set instead of 2??????

Sorry, but you cannot justify that conclusion. Cost does not equal performance. This is where value enters the equation. Axiom speakers are an incredible value. The reviews are right when they say that Axioms outperform speakers costing twice as much (and more than twice as much in many instances).
As an internet sales-based company, Axiom does not have to ensure that Best Buy or Circuit City gets their share of the profit, so you and I get to save some serious cash.
The Klipsch speakers I heard years ago were very good. Back then I went with Cerwin-Vega. Now I'm an Axiom man for good.
Welcome to the forums. Hope you give the Axioms a spin!

Yep... Price does not equate to performance.
Craigsub compared the Axioms M80 with the Energy Veritas 2.4i, and they were very close despite being vastly different in price.

No, I'm not saying that Axiom speakers are cheap!
What I am saying is that I believe that most on this board look for the best value for their hard earned money. They investigated alternative speakers and decided that Axiom were the best value. I find no fault with that.
I don't know what $30,000 speakers sound like. I don't know that I could hear a difference between them and my Axioms. If I couldn't, I sure wouldn't be paying $30,000!!!!!
Now, if I had a $ Billion in the bank, I simply wouldn't care. I'd probably look for the high priced name.

Rat,
Have you taken the maximum price point poll yet then?
Granted, i agree that certain answers on these forums will vary signficantly from answers off of a forum where those who gather have a ton more free cash to spend and are willing to spend on pricey 'high end' audio junk.
Had some of these polls been placed on the Conrad Johnson or Wilson Audio forums, i'm sure one would see a huge jump in prices, component names, etc.
Some people are about finding performance for value. Some people are about features and performance regardless of cost and some are about nothing but how pricey and snooty looking it is.
I think most people tend to follow cheaper roads though. A good friend of mine just bought a very expensive house outside of Toronto (>6000 sq ft so we could say he's in the range of millions) and had a media room installed. He ended up with Paradigm speakers, but for all the cash he put into the house, these models were anything but high end. The room was built and parts suggested by a media room design company so he went with their suggestions. Oddly enough, they didn't suggest an overly priced setup, but i don't believe they got him the best performing units either.

No, I haven't taken that poll!
I wasn't around back then. And, I think your price point may be a bit relative depending on your current personal and financial situation.
I still think that most on this board are cost/ value concerned (and I might add more electronic oriented) and that would color the poll outcome.
