Now theres no doubt I'm waiting until at least Nov. to go with High Def DVD, at $499 and $599 this may be the best deal coming PS3

Of course, these dates tend to slip. I do believe that they would really want it on the shelves weeks before Christmas.

What is also significant is Blu-ray is supposed to debut at a cost of around $1000-1200, Sony is putting it out at $500-600 with a game system, they must be taking a decent financial hit on these units.

It's said the units cost them around 800 each. That said, it may be a *deal* to an HT enthusiast, but at 599 I think the masses will stay away.

There is a lot of information coming out of E3. Before it started I thought the PS3 would be my choice for this generation of consoles. However, having read about the Nintendo Wii (yes the name sucks- it was Revolution before) presentation and the fact that it will cost about $250.00 instead of $600.00, it is likely that the Nintendo will get my money. Its graphics may not look as pretty as the PS3 or the Xbox 360, but the the game playing options are amazing!

Of course, at this point I have no way to view HD content except on my laptop/desktop computers, so I am not overly motivated by that.

I bet the first wave of PS3 gets sold as fast as the 360 did, it seems that folks are spending more and more on electronics these days than in the past, now we spend thousands on TV's, a couple years ago I wouldn't have considered it at that price, now I see it as a bargain.

PS3 will be the one to go with, but maybe not at release. There are usually glitches that need to be worked out. Nintendo Wii will be their best system ever and they have never had problems with their systems at release. At $250 this will make a great Christmas present. Then when Sony's system is easier to get and has no bugs, that will be the best system ever.

Those are some pretty steep prices for the average consumer!!

It's funny that consoles are becoming more and more like computers. Technically, they are, with a different operating system. The decreasing size of mini PC's and the increasing size of consoles is blurring the line between them. The PS3 even uses USB ports.

The thing that consoles really have going for them is the immediate standardization of a new computing platform. PS3's use the cell processor, a very powerful chip, but games have to be specifically programmed for it.

It would be near impossible to make this transition to a PC, where developers would have to code for a wide range of hardware. They can't just say "need a cell processor" or else game sales will be way down.

I mean, with bluetooth, wireless, a hard drive, Blue Ray drive, and plain USB ports for the controllers, and a DVD player, the PS3 is almost an HTPC!

Should be awesome to see what kind of graphics this thing can pump out.

I still think games are better with a mouse and keyboard.

My kids love their 360, but I'll be getting the PS3 for my HT. Can't wait.

My second son really likes his unit, but he says the next generation of game stations will be something else. He was demonstrating one of his war games this evening on our HT. With the sound cranked up, it was like you were in the middle of the battle.
