That is one totally cool room Rick, man I wish my house was that clean/organized. I need to finish up a few things in my room and I'll post some new pictures as well. Very very nice.

Wow, what a fantastic setup!
That is the staple standard how you have set it up. Couch pretty far back closer to the surrounds, nice wide M80 distance ont the short side of the room, QS8's behind you and to the side, dual center channels. Very nice!

The ht room looks killer, dude. Very nicely done. The room looks comfy and inviting. The color on the walls compliments your furnishings and axioms. Two thumbs up!

Very nice indeed, I really do like the color. It looks to be a relaxing blend in the room, job well done. I'm not sure if I like the SRV poster. Send it up my way so I can get a better look at it

Just wonderful, Rick! I'm digging the color. So, you're telling me that beer makes the swelling go down? I love the ceiling and the glass block and the shelves and the equipment rack. How about those pictures of the pool, now?

Excellent work! Looks absolutely incredible and I bet it sounds even better. I really like the "built in's" i.e. the cd rack and component closet. Very nicely done indeed.
Btw, how do you have the dual center channels wired? Iv'e been thinking about that as an option down the road. Are you using Y-connector(s) or just connecting the speaker cables to the same connector outlet?

Very nice looking room, Rick. The color may not seem great by itself, but it works extremely well for the room and complements your furnishings. Give it some time, it may grow on you. I do like it, though.

Oh, that is just gorgeous! For some reason, I never would have though that mustard colored walls could look so inviting! Of course, the color is much prettier than mustard! The room is sooo bright and happy looking. It's really, really nice! Thanks for posting the updates...although it leaves me feeling quite envious!

Great job!
2 questions.
1. Were do you point the remote when turning up volume or changing the channel? Do you point it towards the back of the room were you rack is?
2. How do you have the 2 centers wired?
Thanks

1. If you look on the upper right hand corner of the TV in the 2nd photo you may see the light reflection from an IR emitter which is plugged into the wall with a telephone like plug and then gets hardwired back to the equipment via Cat5 wire where it is then connected through a distribution block and wired to each piece of equipment. I used the Elan Home Systems IR Control, it is very easy to install and setup. I haven't hard mounted the emitter to the TV as of yet because I'm still playing with the location, so far the top right hand corner of the TV works great because I can remotely use all of the equipment from the adjoining room. So to answer your original question, we can use the remote(s) anywhere in the music/TV room or the adjoining room as long as the remotes can visually hit the emitter on the TV. Slick system!
2. I have the centers wired in parallel (r/r, b/b to r/b) via a dual banana plug from the wall plate. It puts a 3.43 ohm load to the H/K receiver but so far I haven't had any heat or overload issues, a nice testament to the receiver! The two centers are sounding very nice, they really plant the dialog right in the middle of the screen.
I'll take some pics of the wiring for the IR system and the wiring of the two centers whenever I get a chance.
Thanks again for all of the nice comments everybody, I appreciate them!

Of course, not much I can add here. As many have mentioned, it's an awesome room...quite creative, really. As for the color...it's much better than drab ole white paint. One thing, that 'might' add some 'contrast' would be to paint the little recess in the ceiling a chocolate color, to match the furniture...but hey, that's just me. I think I have been watching too many 'home improvement' shows lately. Anyway, great job...I hope the effort you put into the room pays for itself (not money, obviously ).

Great room! I only wish that I had that much space in my listening area. I like the color as well. I have a very similar color throughout my house - Sherwin-Williams "Golden Fleece". I am jealous of your TV and audio rack. Great job all around. That Eric Clapton DVD that is on your TV is a good one isn't it?

One last request...would you be able to take a picture, from the 'TV' to the back wall? I would like to see how you have your surrounds set up, in the space behind/to the side of the couch.
Thanks.

Davidsch ... You nailed it my man, Sherwin Williams 'Golden Fleece' # 2388 is the color on the walls. The DVD is EC's 'One More Car, One More Rider' DVD, extremely good! Alan... The TV is a Mitsubishi WD73727 73" RP DLP, other than a little fan noise that was repaired under warranty the TV has been incredible. Inthedeck ... As you requested, but keep in mind there is still work and trim to be done on the fridge cabinet as well as the one below it. Hopefully one day we'll get it finished! Thanks again for all of the compliments everybody, you are too kind! Oh, somebody asked. The room measures 14'x 25' x whatever the ceiling works out to be (7'3" average) ... or approx 2500 cubic ft.

Wow...thanks. The QS's look so 'symmetrical' as per the distance from the ceiling, to speaker. Did you measure really accurately when placing them there?

I'm asking anyone for input. For a surround set up, is that (the system pictured) the best position for the surround speakers? Or is the ideal place at or just above ear level of the listening position (about the height of the M80's)? I am just thinking of the sound plane horizontily, if something is flying around you.
Thanks

^^ I think that the QS8's are designed so that they may be mounted anywhere from ear level to 6 ft from the ground up, on a wall. They have bottom firing drivers, as well...so that would not create an unrealistic soundfield, the way those, in the pics, are mounted. Just my $0.02. Oh...and ready this article, by Alan...to understand it a bit more.. HT Layout

Hey Rick,
This room is awesome. Youve got a good bunch of stuff there!
Have you tried your sub in the corner or do you think its too boomy? It gave me about 5 times the bass when i moved mine there. Youd probably have to keep realigning your pictures and cds but...
I've also got my trim set to full which gives it quite a bit more punch. You?
Ive also got all speakers set to small, crossover at 80 for all and even know the speakers are already set to small ive also found that having the sub set to lfe only and not lfe+mains helps the crossing over sound better.
Hows that 7.1 sound compared to 5.1? Do you have High def dvd yet?
Im also a big SVR fan. Ive been playing guitar for 15 years but im still only half way through learning Little Wing. Do you play at all?

Auzzie1, I did have the sub placed tight in the right front corner but moved it inside of the front main for more separation with the mains and other than missing some stacking up of bass in the rear catycorner I haven't noticed any significant difference as far as sound quality. I believe the 500/600 sub would shake the foundation regardless of room placement. I have my trim set to flat, which I believe is the recommended setting? Everything is set to small and crossed over at 80 with all LFEs to the sub for music and movies. Yes the 7.1 sounds incredible *but* there is some awesome 5.1 material out there that sounds amazing. The Axiom QS speakers are simply amazing, the sound placement is as near perfect as one can expect and to me they look extremely nice on the walls and blend very well with the room. Stevie is the man...no I do not play but my next winter project is to build a replica #1 for a little room decor. Good luck with Little Wing, what an awesome song! Future plans include (besides finishing the room) acoustic treatments, complete separate electronics and probably a second 600. We'll see.

That replica #1 would be really cool to hang on the wall! Let me know how you go with that. Looks pretty hard. I have a large open plan room with a side wall missing so i kind of need the sub in the corner to produce enough bass for my ears. I'm too used to big subs and millions of watts in tiny, car airspaces. Next house I build will definately have a dedicated music room and a dedicated home theatre room. 2 600's! That would rock. Good luck with the future upgrades. Its already a dam fine setup ...
