Ok, its me again. Questions galore. And with any luck Sirquack will jump in here and answer them for me.

I have a HK AVR7300 with Faroujda upconversion turned on for my HK DVD 47. The 7300 goes to my Sanyo PLV-Z4 projector via component connectors.

When I watch a DVD shouldnt the projector be showing the image at 1080i?

The projector info is saying that it is a 480p signal.

Maybe I lack the knowledge here...but please jump in and help me out.

Not sure I'll be much help, as I'm not familiar with the abilities of the HKAVR7300. However, a quick glance at the owners manual after doing a Google search, it appears that it will take Composite or s-video and upsample it to 480p using the Faroudja DCDi, nothing is mentioned about upconverting to 720p or 1080i. My guess is that the reason your getting 480p, is that the signal is 480p which is the highest the Faroudja scaler produces. So depending on what scaler your DVD player has, you might find it does a better job than the AVR's circuitry. However, this might be nice if your feeding a signal from a VCR or other non-component signal to the receiver, it will get upconverted to 480p.

Actually that does help...more then you realize.
I will plug the component cables directly to the DVD player and see what results I achieve.

I dont use a VCR in my HT ... Just DVD and a Xbox360....

Once my HK DVD 47 gets a firmware update I will switch to HDMI and use component for the xbox360.

If you read the 2nd or 3rd paragraph down it mentions signals other than 480i (480p, 720p, 1080i) are passed through with no changes.

In fact, I had the same question. I use the X360 to play DVD's, and they are only played in 480P. However, when I switch to games, they are played in 1080i. The Xbox is going through the 'DVD' connections, on the AVR, and Faroudja is turned ON. So, not sure, but I will try a VCR when I hook it all up again...and see what happens...maybe it will make it 'better' quality.
