I know I know! I've been in the midwest several times in the summer. High humidity + high temps = NO FUN!

Mid 80's to low 90's for the week up here in the mountains. Temps down the hill in Bakersfield going up to 104, no runs to Home Depot this weekend.

Curse you Randy and Rick. May the heat wave venture eastward towards Iowa and Illinois.

Wow, a low of 88 in Phoenix. I knew it got hot there, but had no idea that the lows were that hot. That's just insane! And here's the graemlin to prove it:

I can relate, just took the garbage down to the end of the driveway (150ft), and had a heck of a time breathing in that thick humid air.

LOL at your driveway story; I thought I was the only one who got winded by the ol' trash can relay. My driveway curves and drops 15-20 feet before rising about 30 feet to the street, over a run of 500 feet. After the last downhill curve, I start running to get some momentum to carry me through the steepest rise. Then once gravity has beaten me, I slow to a walk for the last couple hundred feet up a milder slope. That's all the exercise I get - my twice a week cardiac minute...

Trash can relay's a bit different here, living on the edge of the world here, with the soccer complex as our back neighbour, the next set of windbreaks north of us are a kilometre away. We get a bit more of a lateral movement to our garbage cans with the wind. On a hard blowing day, everyone just meets on the next block and picks theirs out of the pile. Bren R.

You have a 500 foot driveway? Shut up! You guys know we're talking about The Weather and Garbage Cans, right? Where's a good troll when you need one?

Yeah, I'm on a 2-acre rectangular plot that has the driveway running along the long side with the house at the back, way off the road. Great for keeping the pets, and, eventually, the kid(s) away from the road. There's a little creek running through a large pipe under the driveway, hence the steeplechase quality to my trash can relay... Lots of old growth trees that obscure almost all of the neighbors. Great for a homebody like me! When you (or anybody off these boards) are in the neighborhood, I'll treat you to a Westmalle Tripel and we'll crank some tunes...

In Minnesota many of the old folk say a few things, but one of the few things that they do say is, "If you don't like the weather wait." And you don't have to wait very long. It can be 95 in the shade one day and a week later it could be 30 and snowing.

A week? In New England, you only need to wait an hour!

They say that in Oklahoma and Texas, too. And of course, in the left third of California, they say "If you don't like the weather you're crazy."

92 degrees with 90% humidity at 4pm, while I was grilling burgers... it's almost 8pm now and 75 degrees. St. Louis weather!

You know you're a Californian when you say, "This isn't normal weather for this time of year," no matter what the weather is, no matter what time of year it is.

I guess I spoke too soon. Those temps I previously posted are mild in comparison to what Fresno is experiencing this weekend.
112 yesterday. 113 is the forecast today. And it might be higher. Thank goodness for A/C.

YOU DON'T HAVE AC??!!! My god, man, what are your trying to do, melt your electronics? That must be unbearable. You better pick up a window unit as soon as possible.

Ken lives near San Francisco Bay. I have a friend in Alameda, and it's always in the 60s and 70s there. But, yesterday it was 93, so I suspect Ken is somewhere in that neighborhood. Both of them were cookin' yesterday. People who live along the Bay, need heat much more than they need AC.

You got it right. It's like this maybe 2-4 weeks out of every year. It's cold (ish) a lot more often. Plus, naturally I have horizontal sliding windows, which don't play nice with AC window units.

I feel for ya. Most years it's like that in Siberia, also. But, not this year. We hit 101 last week, 1 degree short of the record high, which was set in 1931. In the past we would have maybe of month of extremely warm weather. When I was a kid, we would sweat it out, take cold baths, stick our face in the freezer, but back in the '70s my Dad bought this monster of an AC. We needed pack animals to move it from the basement to the dining room window. It was humongous. It put out blasts of frozen air, and has changed summer, forever, for me.
