Interesting. Up here the Equinox and the Grand are in very different price ranges. If their prices are closer in the US then I would cast another vote for the Jeep.

I'm looking enviously at the Audi wagons, myself. They've put some real screamers in that lineup. Of course, so has Mercedes, but their prices are just astronomical.

Subaru Legacy 2.5GT for the win! Much better than an Audi, less electrical gremlins, better handling than an A4 wagon, and a 250HP Turbo engine, to boot.
I love my legacy, even though it's a 5 speed manual (I hate automatics -- even if I have to deal with NYC traffic). It's also a sedan...because I traded in a WRX wagon for it. Much nicer, much quieter, etc.

As for the wagon, it's 10K or so less than an Audi...and has THE BEST AWD system out there. Symmetrical...that's the best kind.

As for the Equinox vs. Jeep...even considered a Land Rover? Or, wait for the redesigned CRV from Honda...better looking, for '07.
good luck...again, too many choices...take your pick!

>>> Ewwww !!!

I couldn't do it either John. Like some of the mid-eighties Chevrolet Caprices running around with 27" rims on them, WTF??

The Honda Odyssey has been consistently named the best minivan, we have a 2001 and have been very happy with.

I have to vouch for this one, too... a friend of mine in Sask has a 1992 Odyssey, she got it without tilt (course, she's not my height either) and that part of it made it feel like driving a bus, but I guessed it at a '98, and was surprised to find it'd done six more years of hard service than I thought.

What really clinched it for me was her complaining when she had to have the brakes replaced all around... rotors, drums, shoes and pads... I asked when they were last done, and she looked at me like I'd just called her mother a low-paid harlot. Never. 13 years and 240,000km and the only thing it'd been in for was oil and plugs.

That's kinda scary. Surely there's a replacement interval on those things a little faster than that!

Then again, our '91 Honda Civis seems to be pretty bulletproof. I mean, except when all the radiator fluid drained out of it... and it has 170000 miles on it or so. Looks like crap. Runs great. Until I posted this, I'm sure.

I looked at the Equinox about a year ago and it was OK. With all the rebates Chevrolet gives it might be worth it. I got a Nissan Murano in Dec. 2004, a much more refined vehicle and handles very good for an SUV, no comparison in my opinion. Holds its value much better than a Chevy too. In Houston you can get one for around 24,000 plus tt&l. They come with all wheel drive as an option too. Not really necessary here but in Idaho it might be useful.

Huh. I always thought that Dodge/Chrysler made the best minivans. It's what my friends swear by.

Me, I like wagons. Well, wagons with decent handling and power. SUVs just don't seem to hold that much stuff, and I don't like being that high off the ground.

I have a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that is always needing some repair or another. I wish that I had forked over a little extra money at the time for a Honda Odyssey. My 2000 Honda Civic EX, however, is an entirely different story. I have 120,000 miles on it and it has had only one brake job and no other repairs of any kind. It also gets 32 mpg even with my heavy foot.
