Can anyone give me a really good reason not to buy this TV? It's pretty much everything I've been looking for in a set.

1920x1080 native (and accepts it)
fits on my stand
over 50"
costs under $4000 (heck, $2800 online!)

What's the catch?

I think the catch is that it doesn't have a brand name or a model number. That would make me nervous about buying it.

CNET - "The bad: Somewhat expensive; inaccurate primary colors; no picture-in-picture; disappointing VGA connection."

Not that I think that the above are reason not to buy!

Spiff, having just gone through this, all I can say is, if you like it, go for it. Each of the current HDTV technologies has it's assets and liabilities. And, there is always the potential of getting a problematic TV. If you follow any of the threads about HDTVs over at AVS, you'd swear there isn't a decent set available.

I just went with a Samsung HL-S5687W DLP, and got a set without any of the problems being complained about at AVS. Just lucky, I guess.

You are missed.

Dont' care about PiP, or VGA connection. The inaccurate primary colors issue needs explanation.

My boss has the previous model with the elephant ears, and without the 1080p input capability. Even so, he LOVES it. Given, he qc's film for resolution and color for a living, I'm guessing the set's pretty good.

Anybody else heard anything bad about it?

Buy it.

I really love the the previous model, too, though I'm already calling for warranty service a second time.

The first problem is that occasionally the screen will go black, then come back on, like it's re-initializing, since the display info comes up each time. It will keep doing it every minute or so until I turn the TV off, wait for maybe 15 minutes, then turn it back on. I called, and the repairman couldn't figure out what could be causing it, and Sony had no ideas, so they had him install a new lamp. The problem still exists, but it's been infrequent, so I haven't been motivated enough to call on it again.

However, NOW the TV has developed a yellow discoloration on the right side of the screen. It varies in severity each time, and sometimes you can't see it at all, but yeah, finally I felt compelled to call for service again. I'd better get the set working 100% before the warranty's up, as it was $4000 when I bought it. It was the lowest local price, anyway. The places that had it online for $1000 cheaper I didn't know if I should trust. It's the most I've ever spent on any one item, so yeah.

These problems aside, I love the picture quality.

C.V.

WRT the VGA connection, I'm typing this up on a 50" TV. You don't know what you are missing.
