I just picked up the Yamaha rxv-4600 130w 7.1 AVR. Got it for $900 at tweeter on a open box deal. Now for the fun part, what speakers to get? Primary use will be for HT. I also plan on getting the new pb12-plus2 from SVS. My room is pretty large, about 3,500cft. It's not a dedicated theater but I am using a 65"hdtv for viewing. I want everyone who watches a movie with me to say, WOW a.k.a. Holy Crap! I can’t decide between the axioms, rockets, or paradigms. Will this receiver be able to run an epic 80 7.1 set up or should I step down to the 60's. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

People have suggested that my 2500 is good enough for the M80's-but I'm only planning on 5.1 and my room is much smaller (1500ft3). I'm not sure how different the 4600 is from the 2500 but from an amp standpoint I'm guessing not much. I'm planning on getting a separate amp down the road-which maybe you should consider if you are worried about power.

Anyway I've only auditioned the paradigms and I really liked them. I'm going to give the Axioms a shot-they were compared to the studio series paradigms but at the monitor price. I figured if I got the top end Axioms I wouldn't have upgraditis.

I don't think the rxv-4600 should have a problem running the 80's, and the 80 7.1 system will undoubtedly give you the WOW! factor.

Nellie, welcome. The Epic 80 7.1 system that you're considering should give you excellent sound in your rather large room. The 4600 should drive the M80s with ease and there'd be no reason to instead use M60s on that account. Keep in mind that the M80s are actually a little more sensitive than the M60s and therefore use less power for a given sound level. They constitute a relatively easy 4 ohm load.
