I keep going back and forth on this, but for Most of you that have M60's or M800's and and EP500 or EP600, do you use your sub w/ 2channel Cd's? Do you run your mains large or small if you use the sub? Thanks for any input.

I use my EP500 and my speakers on small when listening to 2 channel, it would be a personal preference for what you like better, I don't like to keep adjusting things for different devices so I just keep everything set that way.

When I have time to play with the receiver I tend to listen to music without the sub, although I am doing that less and less over time.

I suspect that my idea of "sounding right" is evolving -- I listened to music for decades without a subwoofer, so anything a typical 10-inch woofer couldn't handle sounds strange and un-natural to me

The beauty of a really good sub is that it can be used for 2 channel listening. I have the M60's and a Hsu VTF-2. I always use the sub. Speakers set as 'small' and the cross-over is set to 80Hz for movies, and 60Hz for 2.1 music listening.

I have my M80s set to small and crossed at 40Hz and the 500 at 60Hz. Personal preference.

My 80's are set to large, and the sub is on. I tried it with the 80's set to small...but, I like them large, when listening to music...just sounds better to me...more 'full' per se.

Clearly after reading all of those responses, the only correct answer is "do whatever sounds best to you."

I run my M80s in a 2.1 set up with the Outlaw ICMB set to 60HZ. I've tried 40 and 80 but settled on 60HZ, it sounds the best to me.

I agree! Experiment. Somtimes I do and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I set the 80 to large. Sometimes the music dictate one way or the other.

I agree with Craig and bugbitten.

Personally, I run my 60's small with the sub, because I am just too damn lazy to press those extra buttons to reconfigure stuff all the damn time. Unfortunately, my receiver doesn't cross over lower than 80Hz; from the small amount of experimentation I was able to manage, I very strongly suspect I would adopt Rick's recommendation of 60Hz if I had that as an option.

I've tried many variations and have settled with all speakers to small and an 80hz crossover on the AVR.

Stymie, I'm a little confused on why you would use 40hz crossover, in addition to also using the sub crossover. For starters 40hz is way to low, at least bump that up to 60-80hz. If your AVR/amp is managing the crossover, you don't want your sub crossover in the picture, you need to place it on bypass.

As I've become more familiar with my setup I've relied more and more on my sub. Just takes a little time to blend with the rest of the system. The SPL meter and such can get you in the ballpark but it's your ears that will tell you what sounds right.

I can't think of any reason NOT to use the sub.

I think that any time a system sounds better with the sub turned off, then it simply must not be setup properly in the first place. It took me a good amount of time until I found the best settings and placement required to integrate my sub with the rest of my system, and now there is never a time that I would want to turn it off.

I use 80hz crossover for movies, and 60hz for 2 channel listening (I used to use 80hz for 2 channel with my m-22s, 60hz for my M-60s now). I use an Outlaw ICBM for my bass management, and for the rest of the channels, I have my vp150 set to 100hz and QS-8's set to 80hz.

Here's a couple reasons...

1) You don't have a really good sub (a bad sub sounds horrible with music
2) You have no bass management (or very little)
3) You have shared walls/floors with neighbors
4) You prefer the sound of music without the added depth of a sub
